Service thoughts on my 1675/3
Greetings all, figured I'd pass some time while waiting for a delayed flight. I'd like to get my GMT serviced, and was very satisfied by the job RSC Dallas did on my datejust. The problem I'm having is the dial on my watch. While I believe it to be original and a non-service dial, I'm considering having a new dial installed when I send it in for service. When wearing it normally, you don't notice the flaws, fade and gold speckles but when the light catches the dial just right, it looks pretty bad. As much as I love the look of a vintage piece such as this, it bothers me sometimes to see the flaws.
Will replacing the dial kill the value of this watch even if done by RSC? I have a feeling I'd be better off finding a replacement dial and keeping the old one, but wanted the general consensus. Thanks William Normal view Flaws on dial and fade around outside

I would find a vintage dial to replace yours and have a local watchmaker swap it out. You should be able to do this for under 1K and keep your old dial. If you send it to Rolex they will keep your dial and require you to service the watch to buy a dial. Yes a non nipple dial will kill the value and the vintage look of your watch.
If you search for a nipple dial make sure you get one for the 1675 as the 16753 look the same but aren't compatible. You can tell the difference by looking at the coronet, raised vs printed. |

I had my dial replaced by Dallas RSC in '06. The main reason I did it I was intrigued it was a retro dial right down to the T Swiss T even though it was luminova. I suppose they still use them.

Thanks for posting this Richard, was the lume on the dial new, and glowing or was it an old dial from stock? I'd only want a gold nipple replacement

I'm not sure the printed versus applied coronet is the best way to distinguish between 1675 and 16753... My 1979 16753 has an applied crown while many say it should be printed. Sent from my cracked, broken, hand wound Phone |

Mines a 5,3xxx serial so I'm thinking 1977? Mines raised so that would be an applied one?

If I were the OP I would be looking for a dial with the applied coronet. |

Is your watch a 1675 with a 1575 movement or a 16753 with a 3075 movement?

Yes this is a bit of curious example. A low 6.2m serial from 1979, the first year of production for 16753. Pretty sure it's not a service dial or refinished. Hard to see from the iPhone pic but the 30 sec marker appears to bisect "Sw|ss". http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/thread/1168036432 Sent from my cracked, broken, hand wound Phone |

The dial you have now looks like it has an applied crown. Is it? Can't really tell.
