if you let them check the watch tell them to not damage the hands or dial. at that point i am quite sure they will refuse to work on it but they will tell you if something isn't gen to the watch. that's all you need from them, there are many watchmakers around the world that it would be better off with them working on it.
sorry for your loss.

If you are in Atlanta Lee Brandt Jewelers near Perimeter Mall has a Rolex certified watchmaker on site who could provide authentication for you and advise you of any service needs. I have no connection to them other than having had them service a few pieces for me and I have been very satisfied.

Certification
Since there are so many different opinions on how, who, where, what certification is I am not in a rush to certify the watch. I guess for now the fact that my Dad left it to me is my "certification".
Once that feeling passes I will probably get it certified, if that is a Rolex process that can be done, for placing an amount for insurance on it. Other than that real, fake, or someone in between the watch will always be my Dad's watch handed down to me. I suspect that I will want to do it somewhat locally rather than shipping it off to places and folks I do not know. Certification/authentication can wait for now................ |

That's a wonderful legacy from your father. Cherish it and enjoy it, that is a very collectible vintage Rolex

I think the 6239/6241 vs the 6262 (mine) seems to be more "in demand". I am just saying that based on some prices that I have seen on the web. No matter what model number it is, it does not take away from the love that my Dad left me. I am working on a historically accurate band so I can wear the watch. I am not sure if I will only wear it during special times or more day to day. I just want to wear it and when I look down remember and honor my old man. |

youve goen a lot of excellent advice and mega congrats on the treasure that will surely continue to increase in value every year ad infinitum!
here is what one of the correct bracelets for that watch look like. a swiss made 7205 or u.s. made C&I 7205 would work,as would a 7835 folded link or solid link 78350.. |

7835
Steven,
Thanks for the input and the excellent customer service in locating the 7835 bracelet. Still hunting for the 271 end links. Here are a couple of pics of the watch with the 7835 bracelet. Thx, Rob |

After looking at the dial again IMHO it is not a "Mayer" dial which is good news for you. I believe w/o seeing a real close-up of the dial it is original. JMHO =) maverick

Maverick, You had suggested to me to research the "Mayer" dial in an ealier post. I thought I had done that research via google and did not see the connection? Please share more on what it all means. |

I am sorry about your loss, I lost my Dad back in February this year and it's been a long recovery process.
Congrats on the beautiful master timepiece he left behind for you to enjoy. Take some time to grief and put the watch aside for a little while.

Lack of serifs on the "T SWISS T" is a good give-away and the back 'Singer' engraving or stamp looks horrible. Also the lollypop marker is not correct on the lower right register. This one was just pulled from the Antiquorium auction. http://catalog.antiquorum.com/catalo...&auctionid=221 =) maverick |

THe funny thing with these vintage watches is that the guys that wore them back in the day, didnt even worry about the bracelets they would just go to sears and get an after market replacement band, like my grandfather did to his. If you look at the old Dr. NO movie you see that james bond wears his Sub with a leather band. Im at fault to for trying to match all my watches also to its correct band, but the reality is these Rolexes are great historical timepieces and should be worn and enjoyed ,specially if they were handed down to us.

I hear you brother, I hear you..... I have the "old" replacement band saved and have the "new old" band on the watch. Kinda fun for me to research and get it back to "normal". So far the watch keeps great time and all the push button functions seem to work as designed. I am not sure if my Dad knew what he had or not, he knew it was a Rolex of course but I just do not know what other research he had done. Dad probably bought it used with or without a band in the early to-mid 70's and then put it aside and did not think about it again until he neared death. |

The great thing about that era was that things were bought to be used and not collected ,like baseball cards. imagine a mickey mantle rookie card they only made a handful compared to the millions of cards they make now and so many were cut up and destroyed by kids playing. the same goes with your fathers daytona ,he bought that watch because he knew the quality name and the good looks of a Rolex, but man I bet he never new it was going to be so valuable in the future years. God bless him ,i feel your loss I lost my dad 2 years ago and i still miss him.
