ADs selling unsold stock

I visited an AD prior to lock down and they had a 5170R, 5200G (both blue and white) and 5940R in stock

Now all of those have appeared on their pre-owned section with approximately 15-20% off MRSP.

Is this a way of ADs selling their unsold stock?

I believe they cannot discount watches per contract with Patek, so they are calling them used.

I was thinking the same, I wonder what they would do with the name on the warranty card?

Many ADs seem to venture into the used market and sell reviewed preowned pieces with an AD warranty. Check out ie Bucherer.

My understanding is AD's are allowed to do this within the terms of their Patek agreement - after x years of not selling or even becoming a discontinued model the piece can be sent back to Patek for a free service and then offered as a 'non' new piece with the service warranty.

Since the service warranty is the same as the normal warranty of only two years, i'd wait for it to be serviced and then buy it. This way you get a freshly serviced piece.

could this be the reason there are many watches without certificate of origin?

Thanks for the response. It makes perfect sense as all those models were discontinued and remained unsold for may years.

Is the certificate dated from the date of the service and I wonder what name would appear on the warranty card

Not sure, but since as I understand it is an official route for selling old unsold pieces I guess ‘P..g...l’ could confirm.

It took me about 30 seconds to figure out what 'P..g...l' is

what i meant is that you find a lot of offers in C24 and other website of patkes without certificate of origin (i can't believe someone wouldn't keep that). so my explaination is that it either belonged to someone who didn't want there name to be known to have owned this watch before. or that dealers where actully selling them
