Why can't I see all the dial options?

The Rolex website is kind of a waste of time. I want to buy my wife a 29mm TT Yachtmaster for our anniversary in July but she would like it to have a blue face. I go to the website to see if they even make such a thing and I really can't tell because, from what I could see, they do not show the dial options online.

Is this a way to get me to go in to an AD to find out? I really don't want to do that because I am pretty sure all the Mayors stores here in Orlando knows me as the guy who comes in to look at a watch and never buy it but miraculously I am wearing the very same watch I was looking at the next time I come in. If they know that I am not going to buy from them why would they work with me? I wouldn't..

Anyway, is there a place online that publishes all of the dial options?

Its only a web site and it would be almost impossible to list all the dials possible on all models. Now most ADs will have a master catalogue with all the dial options for every model.

This website used to provide all of the dial and bracelet options available. Not sure if it is current, but worth a try. Click on "dials and bracelets" to download the pdf file.

Yes they make such a thing.

It's called 169623 and you can see it here: http://www.alanfurman.com/noframes/rolex1.html#ro_lady

They could show all of the dials and options, wouldn't be hard. But...then you wouldn't pop down to the AD after work and make that impulse buy.

Yes - I'm sure the Rolex web site is mostly a teaser. It's not intended for real research in making a purchase decision - got to do that on your own.

Excellent information, I knew I could count on the folks here. It turns out that the dial she wants is called "Blue", perhaps I over complicated things a tad.

With all due respect, of course it would be possible to show all the variations available.

There are plenty of more complicated and variable product lines than Rolex, and most of their websites show you all the options nowadays.

I don't know why Rolex refuses to do this, but I personally think it is very foolish. I am sure many casual visitors believe that only the variations depicted are available - I know I did for a while - and don't bother to do more research or visit an AD.

Most high-end product websites are Marketing tools only. Sales conversion is up to the dealer network. This protects margins.

Other products are often presented with all options to encourage direct purchase from the mfr. Prices are so high that few purchase there and go elsewhere on-line to purchase.

Their website at least since I've looked at it has always been very sparse. In fact if you compare it now to what it used to be it has gotten incredibly better.

There maybe something to the statement made that they would rather you go see your nearest AD.

That certainly might be their motive, but I think their logic is flawed.

These days, there are tons of people who are interested in doing as much research about a product - especially a specialized, expensive, high-end product - on their own, before getting into a dialogue with a salesperson.

Personally, I would rather do my homework on a company website, get some opinions in a place like this, and go into an AD armed with some info.

Seeing all the available options on the Rolex site would only get me more excited to visit some ADs and see things firsthand.

Great link! Very helpful. I think it is interesting that the 31mm Datejust is no longer referred to as a "Midsize Datejust". It is now called a "Datejust Lady 31".

Thanks. It gets posted every now and then - I really think it's a "must have" site for any Rolex fan!
