Icon5 Halo around date area? 1665 Rail Dial

I just bought this from a local vintage dealer, and everything looks ok so far.

But, this area came to my attention.. There are some sort of halo around the date area which only can be seen when you have place under a bright light source..

Is it something that I should be concern off? There is no history service history, but it has been pressure tested (air wise) and it passed.

I'm very new to vintage rolex, so I hope I didn't ask some silly question
Many thanks guys!

To me it looks like a typical oil stain. It’s around the date window because who ever serviced the watch, used too much oil and it leaked in through the date indicator window and stained the dial.

Agree, looks like oil stain or maybe repair to dial?

Thanks to all for the great info..
I have notice similar glare/halo near 5 and 55 min mark...i think the watch somehow in the years of service have too much oil and cause it to leak to the dial.

I visually inspected it again, and i don't see any paint been reapply in these area (unless the whole dail got redone, which its impossible)

Technically, can you remove oil stain from a dail? (before I plan to go to RSC for service giving them the no can do list and do movement overhaul only)

the mysterious dot is what is left unanswered...

out of curiously, how much are Rail dial selling these days..

I don’t think the oil stains can be removed,Oil is tough to remove once it soaks into some porous.I see sellers asking $17,000-$20,000 for 1665 Rail SD’s.

x2. I'd probably just live with the stains, and chalk it up to age, patina, wear and tear of a vintage watch that's been serviced, albeit perhaps incorrectly.

I personally think a "Rail Dial" is one of the most over-hyped features on a vintage Rolex, and the appeal is visually meaningless to me, and certainly not worth the premium. So, if you did want to track down a cleaner dial, and it was correct for the serial-number range, I would perhaps install a non-Rail Dial and save some money.

I disagree because the Rail Dial is only a One Year Dial that's much more scarce than a MK1 or non rail.Plus it's different enough with the longer indices that it stands on its own instead of just a subtle text difference.Just my .02 probably because I own One

The rail dial is very nice with the correct superdome. It's so much different.

I agree,The Superdome elongates the Indices even more as seen in your Great Picture.Nothing wrong with a faded kissing 40 Insert

I really like the fact that they look like their bigger brother Comex, but you can wear it daily without worries.... I suppose thats one of the few reason why some still prefer this version.

How hard is it to find a rare dail (dail itself), I suppose there are no such thing as service rail dial right?

The other thing i always wondering, what brezel did it came with? There are some many combos out there that I don't know which is which...

Ah, to each their own. I actually prefer the shorter indices because it gives the dial a slightly less cluttered and more open look. They're all beautiful, of course!

Beautiful SD Aaron! As for the rail v. non-rail, I too prefer the openness of a mk1, but appreciate the distinctiveness of the rail.
