Always - taken off when doing something that could damage it. The watch is made to be worn. So wear it.

You know, these here forums can be funny at times. I have had a Rolex on my wrist since I was 18 years old; two tone Datejust on jubilee. Wore it pretty much non stop, 24/7 without EVER even thinking about scratches, dings, nicks, etc.

It wasn't until I found and joined TRF that the thought of micro scratches, scratches, PCL's, etc. ever even came to mind. Admittedly, when I first acquired my brand new two tone bluesy Submariner, I was paranoid as all get out (thanks TRF). I didn't want to get it all scratched up. Well, it turns out that the gold center links attract micro scratches seemingly without the watch having to touch anything!!! So needless to say, I got over the 'scratch thing' fairly quickly and now just wear my watches and enjoy them.

I just couldn't see the rationale in purchasing something of this price point only to have it reside in a safe and only taken out on special occasions. Hell, to me, LIFE is a special occasion. Wear it! Love it! Enjoy it! If you have the means, life's just too damn short to hold off on pretty much anything. Go for it today. For tomorrow is no guarantee.

I wear my Rolex pretty much every day. For awhile I was using lower-end watches on weekends, but I just wasn't enjoying wearing them as much. I have been on the lookout for another piece to wear in rotation with my Explorer, but haven't found the right piece as of yet.

I own many brands and try to treat them equally. Rolex rotation depends on the day, activity, or time of year. Yea, if I just owned A Rolex or two only then they would see every day rotation. Variety is the spice of life and I like mechanical watches too much to limit myself to one brand.

You are right with the Submariner gold links. Had the same issue and forgot
about it. My issue was scratching the bezel or crystal. With the DJ Jubilee bracelet scratching the gold or stainless bracelet is not really noticeable. So no problem there.

Thanks for your opening comment. This post was suppose to be fun.

I wear my bluesy every single day. I almost never take it off.

I might take it off for washing the car or detailing my bike or working around where it will get banged into things but that's pretty much it. I usually take it off to shower just because I don't want to get soap build up in the bracelet.

I do not wear either Rolex to work, but between evening and weekend activities, they get worn a few times per week.

Every day, except when weight lifting or playing guitar (I'm left handed, so wearing it on my right wrist makes it uncomfortable to play.) I couldn't imagine not wearing it.

Before that I wore a hublot super professional diver for about 11 years, and it looks like it has been beaten into oblivion. Bezel almost fell off it at one point. I love the way it looks. Fine watches are like fine leather, they get "broken in"

Having a Rolex and only wearing it for special occasions is like having a super-model for a wife and only being intimate with her for special occasions...
What are you saving it for? The next guy?

I wear my GMT every day. I only take it off to lift weights and play guitar (I"m a lefty, so I wear it on my picking hand.) I love watching it slowly get scratched up!

I used to wear a Hublot super professional, for about 11 years. By the time I was done the watch looked like it had been beaten to a pulp. The bezel was loose, the numbers on the bezel were wearing off and it had a decent gash running across it. And it had been on three continents, numerous islands, into several oceans and seas, ridden in first class and jump seats, and scaled a glacier. Unless it is a true dress watch, wear it every day. Good watches are like fine leather, they get better the more you break them in.

I tend to prefer my Rolex watches in the rotation. I wear a watch everyday and most frequently my Rolex watches. In the OPs case I'd consider saving the Rolex by not wearing it and finding something else to wear that won't cause consternation.

Scratches and dings don’t bother me at all, unless it’s something I intend to flip.

I hope to be an old man with a banged up watch.

I don't see the point of having something nice that I'm not going to use all the time. Seems like a lot of money tied up in something you only wear monthly.

I have two watches. My 114060 Sub and a Seiko SKX009. I keep the Seiko around because it's a cool cheap watch, not worth selling it, and so I have a true beater if I ever feel the need to wear a watch in what would be considered an abusive situation.

In the 7 months I've had my Sub I've worn it every day and have never pulled the Seiko out of the closet to wear, so that situation hasn't come up yet. My watch has some marks here and there, no problem, shiny new watches are cool when they're new but I have no problem with watch showing some signs of use and wear...means it's being used and enjoyed as intended.

The first hairlines and scratches will hurt a bit. In time you will be more relaxed about it and eventually you will feel that the scratches and dings only adds personality and history. I wouldnt trade my scratched old beater (one watch guy) for a brand new and identical one.

You shouldn’t be babying your watch too much. I fully understand why some people do though - but a Rolex should be on your wrist for all occasions - not only the special ones.

Based on the comments in this post I took only one watch to my vintage watch specialists in Cypress, a vintage gold Swiss Army Delta. Since he is aware of my watch collection we discussed the posts in this thread. He stated the time to repair a 'collectible' is when you can't see the dial or the crystal is cracked. You get his point. In the case of the Swiss Army, I picked it up at a pawn shop in Long Beach for $45. It was a mess. He cleaned it up while maintaining the vintage value. It has since been valued independently at $1500. My total cost was $75. So, he said Merry Christmas and gave the watch back to me and said, "No need to repair the minor flaws. You have a collector's item. If I make any changes the value will be gone."

Moral of this story: Listen to the forum. There are some sharp knives in this drawer.

Everyday. I only own 2 Rolex’s currently. I grab whichever one I’m feeling that day. Generally my Bluesy to work and my SD on days off.

What in the world does this have to do with not wearing your Rolex(es) often because you're afraid of scratching them? Very odd posts by the OP in this thread.

Agree with this, lost a good mate a couple of years ago and it sort of puts things into perspective a bit.
I do keep the Daytona as a special one to a degree but the Pepsi is now my everyday wear, work in the building trade and try to be sensible with it but at the end of the day I am enjoying it every day with it.

Being frightened to use something is similar to a friend many years ago who used to cover his new car seats with seat covers and put overmats in straight away, the seat covers looked awful but he used to live with it, never fully enjoying the original upholstery, the person that would gain from this would be the next owner of the car and not him personally.

Doesn't it disgust you, the state it's in? How I could possibly have worn such a thing I've no idea. Look at the glass for god's sake! Chips round the edges and a huge scratch in the middle...

One day I looked down at it and I was so embarrassed I took it off and threw it into the river. I figured it was worthless anyhow.

Of course I was lost without my Rolex, so I bought another. But, having learned my lesson, I took just one photo of it before squirrelling it away into the safe. Phew! What a relief never having to damage this one!...

So, what do I wear daily? Well... I picked up this one for £2.50 but upgraded the strap to a Brady Sailcloth for only £5.50 extra. AND it's water resistant down to a puddle and because it's quartz it's 0.005 seconds per day more accurate than the DJ41. Well, that's if the DJ41 wasn't in the safe of course (don't like watch winders - too much wear on the movement)...

So, the moral is: Don't enjoy your beautiful Rolex every day, or your Porsche for that matter, for to use them as intended is sacrilege and will surely damage them over time and spoil your enjoyment of sneaking a peek into the safe, or the garage, to ogle them once in a blue moon. Don't forget you only live once!

exactly this
