16700 Gmt
Hello everybody on the forum. I read the forum for quite some time now, but this is my first post.
I bought 1991 gmt master. I know nothing about vintage watches, it was pure impulsive buy. Saw it, like it and bought it. I posting some pictures and any help would be apreciated regarding the watch condition and so on. As im planning to buy new sapphire glass and oyster bracelet would just like to know it that make sense regarding the condition it is? Thank you in advance and sorry for bad english. Its supposed to be 1991. The serial on the watch and papers is L536162. I dont know anything more about it. It was bought in Germany from someone who sells vintage watches. It looks in good condition to my untrained eye, but want to get other opinions.. is it overpolished? Do you notice something else on the pictures worth knowing etc..? I noticed that only hour, minute and gmt hands are glowing in the dark, not the dial. Does that mean that hands have been changed?
Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Congratulations. A 16700 was my first watch and I still own and wear it many years later.

Nice 16700, the last of the "real" Rolex GMTs. Hands are definitely replaced. See the tritium patina on the dial hour plots that doesn't match the hands. You could always try to track down a tritium hand set. Case has certainly been polished, but not too bad. Congrats!

Good looking watch..
I would say that it has been nicely rebuilt and the hands replaced with later Luminova hands. Doesn't need anything, wear it in good health.

Picked up a U serial 16700 myself last year and really love it even though I have always been a Sub/SD guy. It is really is a great reference and the quick set date is really convenient. Probably now my most constant wearer - great watch!

To my eye, the bezel insert is aftermarket, which is no big deal, $100 from a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account. Look at how the 20 and 22 do not round the dial, specifically look at the 2nd 2 in each the 20 and 22.

X2. Try this thread - several variations of aftermarket inserts are depicted within the thread:

The OP's (original poster's), not yours.
