Daytona Zenith

Guys,
I would like to add to my collection a Daytona Zenith, I see many differences in prices on Chrono24, I love watches and I own few nice pieces, not very expert of vintage. Could you give me some advices?
White or Black? Right Price? Steel or gold?

Thanks.
D.

In the asset bubble people seem to have started chasing for precious metal models. But I think what's really unbeatable is the basic steel case models.

When it comes to SS 16520 both black and white dials are just as good looking and worth collecting.

Personally I don't understand the hype and the inflated prices over patrizzi (maybe I have not seen an example where the patrizzi effect is even within the individual sub-dials and amongst the sub-dials) so I tend to like those with original sub-dials in mint conditions.

Also some would also look at the rarity of different dial variations and production years but I think as long as the condition is good any basis SS 16520 would be a nice watch to have in one's collection.

The white dial looks amazing! You might still be able to find one for decent price.

I was in the same position this time last year, the prices in the UK and Europe seem quite inflated compared to the USA but when taking into account import tax etc its probably better to stay within Europe. That said finding one with a black dial that hadn't been polished to hell and back wasn't that easy at a "reasonable" price particularly as I was being quite specific in wanting one that had original papers and box and preferably a recent service (given the price that Rolex now charge to service the older models). I eventually located one on Chrono24 in Germany, the asking price was a bit high but the dealer was open to negotiation. Sadly the UK tax man wanted a kilo of flesh from me last month and the only viable option was to sell the Daytona to fund the bill...I was surprised by the increase in price in just 10 months (and the speed in which I sold the watch) so my advice would be not to wait, they may have hit the top in terms of price but my gut feeling is that there is some way to go with the 16520. Incidentally mine was a 2000 year model so close to the end of the Zenith production run.
Good luck!
Keith

Thanks Keith! So bad you had to sell it.
I never been so excited by Daytonas, but now, probably getting old, i would like to have a Zenith in my collection.

it is very difficult to find a black one at a decent price...

Steel, white. Gets overlooked compared to black.
Personally find it extremely elegant.
Here's my inverted 6.

Guys,
when it come to choose, would you be oriented to an early model (L-R) or more recent A or so, maybe with Luminova?
Also, would you buy a 4 lines without papers?
How much important are the papers? If I buy one without and I send it for a complete servicing, would the service papers be enough to guarantee the watch?

Service papers are nice but are not really considered the "papers." Compete sets add about 5k to the price of the watch. Lack of papers would result in a drop in value. Crazy right?

Thanks for the explanation, it clear now, it looks crazy but understandable.
Would you prefere an early one or a later one?

Early is always better but finding the condition is key. I wanted an early one but bought the nicest I could find at a semi reasonable price.

Not easy finding the earlier versions and they are commanding very high premiums for those.

Guys i found a White Dial with box and paper, serial is E, the price is ok, what do you think? According to the previous table E is one of the rarest serie. Should I pull the trigger? Or better concentrate on some other Series?

would you buy it without Papers?

It seems that zenith daytona supply is drying up.
