I know what you mean. It's the blue dial 15400 which I was lucky to get on my birthday last April. I thought it would be with me for awhile, but I started looking at Nautilus / Aquanaut photos...

you probably only "need" one blue face sports watch....15400 or 5711 are two amazing choices, so, if the 15400 isn't doing it for you, why not give the 5711 a spin?

I'm close to doing it...the 15400 is a great watch no doubt but I feel it's just a bit too big / heavy for my wrist...also a bit too aggressive to be used for dressier occasions (probably due to octagonal bezel)...here's a wrist shot:

U definitely need a 5711. Give it a try and see how it feels for you. I am sure you will love it.

Couldn't agree more, the 5711 certainly looks more refined than RO 15400. It can be a nice dress watch as well.

I think consolidating is needed. In fact we are in a similar situation as I also wanted to sell one of my watches in order to get 5980/1a.
In your case I think the swap is quite smart, not that I'm saying the 15400 isn't good, but its not good enough compared to the 5711 without a doubt, the fact the 5711 is truly an iconic nautilus that would add a huge bonus to it.
Once you are hooked on PP, then the list goes on lol, a lot of damage to your wallet as well, therefore selling other watches for PP is always wise, unless of course if money is not an issue.

I love the 5711, and 5712, but saying that I'm not sure I'd skip an AP for it...

Edit, saw your AP is an 15400, now this watch has it's proportions wrong IMHO, so go for it!

Im a big AP fan but if selling the 400 gets you the 5711 then I would do it.

Have you gotten the 5980? Good luck!

No I have not yet, have you sold the 15400? Shouldn't be that hard to sell.

The biggest thing stopping me from getting a 5711 is that it's pretty much impossible to get. My local ADs all say the waiting list is potentially years long and that they won't even request one without a full deposit of at least full retail price. Fortunately this means I get to keep and enjoy my current watches for a while. :P

You could try a trusted dealer here, the white is quite easily available but I assume you like the blue dial

Blue dial, of course. :) I am a sucker for blue dials, hence my AT8500, new Yacht-Master, and electric blue Seamaster 300m. When I got into watches, I wish I had anticipated that I'd end up spending this much -- I would've just gone straight for the Patek and not looked back. Now I'm kinda stuck with a large loss if I were to sell everything off for a 5711. Hindsight is 20/20. :P

I've been looking for a blue 5711 on Watch Recon but nothing ever comes up, plus I'd be very hesitant to buy something like that for near-MSRP not knowing how it was treated, the service or polishing history, etc. when I could get one for MSRP that I know is perfect.

Time to revisit this thread...over the holidays, my thoughts have wavered to several choices:

A. Sell the 15400 and Daytona and get the 5711 , adding cash of course(which was my initial choice)

B. Sell the 15400 and GMT2c and get an Aquanaut

C. Sell the 15400 and GMT2c and get the AP 15202 (adding cash again)

D. Sell the 15400 and get a 15300.

Still haven't made up my mind.

Option C

You're buying a true icon and a classic. The 15202 is much closer the the original Jumbo than the 5711 is to the original Nautilus.

I guess I got lucky when my dealer had this in stock for me a few weeks ago.

I would agree with you about the PP being better for formal occasions. I was just in Vegas and trying both on. I went with the RO (silver dial) because I thought the PP would be harder to dress down due to the PCLs. I don't have to wear suits very often these days and felt the 15400 fit my lifestyle better.

A few weeks ago? You didn't happen to be in North Dakota did you? I got a tip about a jeweler there that had one briefly but when I called them today they said it sold about a month ago...

I reduced my collection from 17 to 7 last year and don't regret it for moment as I know get to wear all the pieces more regularly. Good luck with your decision!

Nope, in Toronto. I'm actually shocked to hear they're in such short supply - you'd think PP would want to maximize profits.

I don't think there's anything wrong with trading a few watches towards a Patek. That's the only way I'd be able to get one. I'm considering trading towards an Aquanaut myself. We will see, haha.

Agree on the trading. I'm still contemplating trading my GMTIIC, 5167, and my PAM233 for a 5164.

I would think so, too, but every AD I've spoken to has told me I might as well give up. They said they'd be happy to take my money but chances of actually getting the 5711/1A-010 in the foreseeable future is near zero, and they never know when they're going to even have access to request one (which they say is only possible if someone has a full deposit down).

Which brings me to...I've literally never even SEEN a blue dial Nautilus or been able to try one on, and every AD has also said there's no way I ever will unless I buy one because that's the only way to get one into the store. $27k on faith and online pics is a lot to swallow!
