Great story, thanks for sharing. I’m the proud owner of a Sub No Date and a Sea Dweller 43 (Mk2 dial), and my Sub is the go-to watch on the grounds of comfort. But that’s not to say I prefer it - the SD43 is very special and I think you’d miss it if you trade it in. The ‘heft’ is something I’m getting used to, and the red text, although subtle, makes it different from all of the other Sub LN’s out there! I would miss mine if I ever part ways with it (hopefully not!).

To be clear, I love the red name, it is only my wife who does not. As she cares very little about such things this does not present a problem!

Congratulations on getting a really great watch! My friend has the same wonderful piece, and it really is amazing- it oozes quality.

After trying it on, I actually had the same thoughts you had (besides it being an ace watch), the only negatives for me were the weight (a bit too hefty for my taste) and the cyclops (I could do without it).

Anyhow- what a fantastic watch!

May I wish all the best with your new watch. Can I ask, why you decided on the Sea-Dweller as opposed a Sub nd or Sub? Any particular reason?

Welcome and congrats on the retirement pressie. You have a lovely watch and it won't take too long to get used to the weight, especially with bracelet adjustments/divers link removal. Aim for a tightish fit with the glidelock set at the midpoint, so you can adjust either way yourself on a day-to-day basis.

I don't think you are in a hurry to swap and I certainly wouldn't. I'd give it time to get used to and enjoy

I liked the extra exclusivity/unusual nature of the SD. I also thought I really wanted a date.

Also, I was wearing a 43mm watch at the time, and for several years before, so I felt I wanted the larger dial (though 3mm more is not so much).

I guess also what I did not quite appreciate at the time was that all of the SS watches were pretty much equally hard to get.

And finally, I thought I preferred it! And still do, to an extent, though I do now feel I like the ND Sub at least as much. If I was a 2 Rolex kind of guy I would put my name down now for an ND Sub. But I don’t think I will, one luxury piece is enough, any future watches I buy will be for a purpose, such as being the “almost” luxury appearing watch such as a Seiko diver, for rugged use and perhaps for overseas holidays where I won’t want to take the Rolex.

Thanks for the explanation. I totally get that and understand your logic behind the purchase. Only recently I have started to dislike the chunkier heavier watches I owned and was starting to really enjoy thinner cased, leather strapped watches as opposed to the steel ones. But am a grumpy old geezer! Yours is still a legend watch either way you look at it. Enjoy.
