Consolidation regrets?
Anyone ever regret selling other brands to consolidate into Patek? I’ve read JorgeCCWs famous thread but am curious others’ thoughts. Thinking of trying to put my submariner LV and BLRO towards a 5711 which would leave me with the 116519LN on oysterflex as my only Rolex.

It a tough one. Sometimes I think about consolidating to simply enjoy one or maybe two pieces ... there’s a lot of sense to this IMO, but I’ve not quite managed to put it into practice.
In your specific example, I’d consider it. You’ll have two great pieces to wear and enjoy. Caveat for me is that your paying MRSP for the 5711. |

Yes this would only be for 5711 at retail.

Unless you can get one for near retail I’d find that a hard trade. Those two watches will get you up to around 30k usd. I think these are trading around 50k. That’s still a big jump.

I’ve always dreamed of consolidating but have been unable to successfully do so on a large scale. Maybe some day..

Very different watches in terms of look and feel. If you love sports Rolex you may not like the 5711 and vice versa - I for one never owned a sports Rolex but always liked the 5711 (and 3700 and 5712). I'd add the 5711 if you can get one at retail, give it some time as you may find it underwhelming initially, and then decide what to let go if anything...

I would do that move swiftly. If you have a 5711 lined up at retail its a no brainer.

I’m a big believer of what Jorge does... quality over quantity. There is only 7 days in the week and most of us really rotate between 2 to 3watches
With regards of consolidating into the 5711... I’d do that |

Wouldn’t work for me. If I keep my favorite 3 which would be hard to part with, they are the most expensive pieces and cost more than the rest of my collection. If I sold the rest to consolidate, wouldn’t come close to enough funds to get any of the Patek models I would want.
I agree quantity is not often better than quality but personally would rather have 3-4 quality pieces (plus a dozen mid range) than one very high end piece.

A Nautilus and a Daytona on Oysterflex would be an absolutely perfect pair.

Update: definitely getting the 5711 at retail. Traveling next week though so the incoming photos will have to wait. My AD is the best.

I think buy what you like and what you can afford. If you need to consolidate to buy a piece, then you can't afford it.
However, if you don't like what you have and want to consolidate because you don't like what you have and want to get rid of some pieces, then consolidation makes sense. Make sense? |

I don’t care for the Rolex sports model so I would. Gotta have 3 watches minimum imo.

Keep trying to consolidate, but can’t quite bring myself to let go of some of my pieces as I’ve got to a position where I really like all my watches apart from a couple. All very tricky, but a nice problem to have!
A 116519 and a 5711 makes for a high quality duo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If I remember rightly I went from 6 Rolex and one Omega to a 5711 blue / 5167 / white Ceramic Daytona. Since then picked up a BLRO. No regrets at all - I had very similar watches hence some didn’t get worn and it got a little boring. E.g. many divers - Sub ND, DSSD, Hulk and Seamaster.

No regrets, as they're just mass produced timepieces and can easily be purchased again if you are so inclined. If you play violin and owned an original Stradivarius, then were 'forced' to sell it, that is a different situation.
Since you're referring to modern timepieces that are mass produced, no worries at all.

Consolidation regrets?
It’s not about affording it. I wasn’t wearing LV and BLRO very much so it was about making the bundle attractive to the AD. They can resell my pieces at a profit so it improves their overall margin on the deal. Better than bundling with jewelry or something else. The same strategy worked to get my 5167.
And for sure no regrets. I honestly can’t believe it’s happening. |
