Santa Fe Rolex Reconnaissance Report. Part two.

So today was a GREAT Rolex day in Santa Fe. I found out about World Class Watches of Santa Fe yesterday and went in for a visit this morning. What a fantastic experience. This shop alone was worth the trip.

David Perlowin is the owner and a second generation master watch maker, his father being his obvious inspiration. He was very gracious and actually spent some quality time with me educating me about Rolex movements. His take on Rolexes is that they are as good a movement as he has ever seen. And more robust than just about anything out there.

His shop was stocked with a fine assortment of both vintage and modern Rolexes, Omegas, A. Lange & Söhne, Cartier, Longines, IWC, Hamiltons and other makers. He had a very nice rail dial GMT with some of the nicest spider webbing I have ever seen. He also had several other GMT's, subs, and bubble backs. Many of his vintage Rolexes were from the 50's. Just a really great selection.

I spent a lot of time talking about TRF and inviting him to join. I believe he will do so, but he did state that his schedule doesn't allow for a lot of internet time. Hopefully he will join and introduce himself as he would be a great addition to our forum.

For a list of his inventory you can go to his website and explore. http://www.wcwtimepieces.com/index.htm

After spending some time with David and his assistant Sherry I have to say it was very refreshing to just come in contact with someone who was genuinely passionate about watches and gave Rolex the credit it deserved. He had lots of good things to say about their movements which actually surprised me in that he works on what some consider to be the very finest of watch movements.

I am going back tomorrow with my son and can hopefully pick him up a nice Omega that will make him a good starter timepiece for where he is at in life now.

Anyway, thought that I would share a very pleasant experience and can recommend them as great folks that love talking timepieces.

By the way, did I mention that I picked up a late series TT Rolex sport model with open papers and a complete package? No, I don't think I did.

Their website has photos of their shop.

Photos of my new acquisition will be forthcoming when I receive it via registered mail toward the end of the week. Should get to Independence about the time we get home from Santa Fe.

Karis,

No green, but it is a Z series and has open papers. Complete package! It was originally purchased at Oriental Watches in Hong Kong last year.

I revisited World Class Watches today and David (the owner / watchmaker) had already polished it for me and let me see it as they hadn't boxed it up for shipping. After picking my jaw up off the floor, it was all I could do not to just pay the taxes and take it with me. Not a scratch or hairline on it anywhere. They are sending it out tomorrow so I should have it later this week or early next. Photos will follow of course.

I am now a three Rolex man, just like the legendary JJ, Irani! Oh and the ultra legendary Karis! Perhaps I am reaching WIS Nirvana!
