Master Chronometer from AD inbound after one call!

That's right - I decided I had waited long enough for a Cosmograph Daytona so I made a few calls and ordered an OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional.

Maybe someday I will be able to add a beautiful Daytona to my collection also but this order has already shipped and I am looking forward to receiving it. A decade ago I worked at NASA LaRC so I am familiar with their rigorous testing. The fact that OMEGA was the only watch company able to pass all of the testing and become flight-qualified adds a bit more to excitement to this purchase.

And then there is the Master Chronometer certification which is first requires COSC and then METAS. This will be a fun watch to enjoy for the rest of my life...while waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for a Cosmograph Daytona.

It is really amazing, Omega is on top of their inventory although I can imagine their demand while great is not as great as Rolex.

Just the other week, I saw a bronze/gold seamaster 300 on an airport billboard which seems like a brand new model. After I landed in LA, I happened to see an Omega boutique and not only did they have that model I asked for, but a fully stocked showcase with nearly any Seamaster, Speedmaster, etc.

I've also been toying with the idea of an Omega. But if I were to get one it'd have to have a moon phase. Congrats on your purchase!

I have this one….. my only omega so far - and I love it!!!!

Congratulations OP! In my humble experience, omegas are less prone to scratches and dings, and the design of the speedy is just superb in my opinion.

Waiting for my Snoopy (and waiting, and waiting though….)

I’m ready to buy one myself. Love that specific reference with the sapphire back. I still would prefer a Daytona Panda being self winding and the water resistance but their is a lot to love with the Speedmaster and they are available at ADs. My dad was very involved with the aerospace industry in the 60’s so I like the history better with the Omega.

I love the panda dial! What’s the reference # on that bad boy?

Thank you.

522.30.42.30.04.001 - Tokyo 2020 (there are other dial combinations)

It’s a Japan only model though but you may find some outside of Japan on Chronos24 and other dealers. Mine was bought via C24 in Switzerland and had it posted.

OP - I love the see through back of the one you bought. The Tokyo is a closed back…. :(

Thank you - I never really considered the see through back although this is a beautiful piece and it is easily growing on me.

Great choice IMO. Better than the Daytona in a lot of ways.

Congrats! I just bought myself one as well. With regards to the Daytona vs Speedmaster comparison, both are similar yet different at the same time. I think you made a better decision in getting a Speedmaster as opposed to getting the Daytona at grey prices.

Well done! I did the same play this past weekend with a hesalight model and couldn’t be more pleased.

Enjoy

Nice Omega

Love my Speedmaster Pro. This time of year it's on an OEM strap and clasp, but I'm thinking I'll swap back to its bracelet in a week or two.

Congratulations. I own both the white and black dial SS Daytona-C's and enjoy my 1861 and 3861 more and the Speedmasters get 10x the wear. Enjoy.

Congrats! You made an excellent choice here, one you'll never regret. Life's too short for all the waiting, bet you're very excited to receive this piece. Looking forward to the pictures you'll post once it lands.

This is slowly creeping into my number one spot for my next watch. I’m a big fan of the changes made and love how versatile it is. Bracelet, leather, ballistic nylon. Plus the options of hesitate or sapphire.

It’s a classic and has more history/heritage then a Daytona. I think it will itch your scratch. Congrats!

The white panda dial Tokyo 2020 Speedmaster is my next purchase. I've been looking for one and I'm hoping to find one in the US that is reasonably priced.

Thanks to everyone for all of your kind words and support. By this time tomorrow I should have this beauty in my possession. Late Saturday afternoon I have an appointment with the AD to have it sized.

I will enjoy viewing some of the other OMEGA and Grand Seiko pieces while there. Any recommendations? I enjoy sporty watches with a more traditional look.

If possible, have a look at the DeVille Tresor. It's classic and comfy to wear, and it's powered by a fantastic hand-wound caliber.

Congrats on your new purchase! The Speedmaster Pro 3861 is quickly becoming a favourite watch of mine, and yes, over most of my Rolexes.

This is truly one of the best chronographs out there for the price, and with the updates, a watch that should be in every collection.
