Help with age please?

Hi folks. The vintage Rolex I just acquired has hallmarks inside the back cover that say Rolex 14k GALCO 799385 and a stylized squirrel. Searching threads, I found that the squirrel was used for 14k. However, I don't know about the "galco" stuff.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me figure out the approximate age of this baby. It's working fine at the moment, but it's a bit stiff to wind although the seller claimed it was recently serviced. I'm planning on getting a second opinion on that ASAP and wound it just to ensure it was working.

It's gorgeous, and I think with a bit of TLC will be a centerpiece. I know I posted it earlier today, but now that I've had a bit of time to just stare at it, I had some questions. The JLC I got earlier today has been stolen by the DH.

Not sure what to think. GALCO is an old Swiss watch company trademark - Gallet & Co. Watches, est. 1925. They reportedly made pocket watches, ladies watches, and ....? I could find no reference of a direct relationship with Rolex, but there may have been at some point. You might check with Dr. Linda re. this watch; she has a similar vintage octagonal with a Rolex dial. Luck!!

The case stampings should include the material, port of assay, and year of assay. Find a jeweller or appraiser with the hallmark books. That will narrow down when the case was hallmarked, but not necessarily the finished watch.

I don't want to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol IS a solution!

Does it have a Rolex movement?
