Pam 240 vs Pam 510
Hello everyone,
It's my first time in this community and I'm looking for some advice. I'm trying to consider between a PAM 240 and PAM 510. Both are second hand at the exact same price. Here's a brief comparison: PAM 510: Full set 2014 P serial Mild scratches on the sides PAM 240: Watch only Serial (unsure I'll update as soon as I get the info) It's my first Panerai and I have a preference towards the 510's sandwich dials, but I think the 240 has its merits as well (titanium case, automatic, date). My question here is: which one do you guys think is better in terms of accuracy (is the p.9000 really that inaccurate) / serviceability (in house movement vs. Valjoux) / complications (date or no date?) / looks (sandwich dial or sausage)? |

Find a used 111 instead is my thought.

If you looking for first Pam consider rather 000,005,111 or 112.
They have solid reputation. Cheers, Will Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk |

The same price? That's pretty amazing, as the 240 has been out of production for several years and is far from a purist's choice. Do you need the Ti? I would imagine you can find a better price on a 104, which is the same in polished SS.
Anyway, I would only look at full sets, personally. 510 is solid, but you have to be okay with "8 DAYS" on the dial. |

Welcome to TRF
510, but also consider the 111.

I would go with the one that is complete with box and papers if it works for you. The Panerai market is soft right now and the lack of a complete set will hurt on a flip or sale. Shop around as our Trusted Sellers and some AD's are very aggressive on pricing.

Welcome aboard, between this two I will go Pam 510,p5000 in house movement and the 8 days and also full set it's very important, specially when you are selling it in the future best of luck with your choice

Between "those" 240 and 510, I would go for the 510, because ...
(1) full box and paper (2) sandwich dial (which is discontinued for latest 510) AND display back (3) manual wind (4) screw lugs (5) in-house 8-day movement Some people don't like the P5000 movement, for fear of its serviceability. but IMO, you only service it once every 7 to 10 years and we do that with Rolex anyway (send it in RSC for service), 8-day PR has some historic linage for Panerai, its an completely in-house movement afterall. So why not. Get the 240 only if you REALLY need a date with automatic movement AND after you open up the caseback to verify the movement. I don't think the date complication is anything extraordinary. People won't be impressed with a date complication. :) And I have a slight issue with the brushed finish on Panerai. I have had 176 and 177, and I found their brushed finish on titanium very blend, very industrial, not very refined. if you know what I mean. I very much enjoy the brushed finish of Omega, they just seems nicer and done better.

Thank you all for your opinions! I've narrowed down to 000/111/510. Unfortunately the 510 was sold yesterday so I will keep hunting. I hope to upload my first Panerai on OCT 1rst (that's when I plan to go to Hong Kong to pick it up)

Base models (e.g. 000, 112) are great, but make sure that you are happy with two hands i.e. no running seconds hand.
