This my situation exactly. I tried on the 36 and the 40. That 36 was what I bought! For a dress watch DD36 is perfect. My Sub is a different feel and look.

This forum is teaching me so much. I'd never given a single thought to the size of my watches until I encountered this 'large watch / small watch' divide. I'd never heard or thought about it. Thank you for your comment. You're absolutely right!

Day Date 36mm Too Small

Haven't read any of the previous posts, but the answer is no, 36mm is not too small, unless you look down at your wrist and think it's (the watch that is) too small. If that's the case, get a bigger watch. To me 36mm is a classic size that looks great on most wrists.

As said above 36mm DD looks good on you, such a classic!

To the OP - the DD looks fine on your wrist. Plus trends come and go, classics live forever!

Size is relative to wrist size. 40 might be considered big for a 6" wrist or smaller. I have a 6.75" wrist and enjoy both a DD36 and a DJ41 :).

Yeah, right. I’m pretty sure there isn’t a guy on this forum considered more desirable than Ryan Gosling, and he wears 34mm! Heck, lots of Hollywood leading men wear smaller vintage watches.

My 36mm DJ fits fine and is a good size. My next watch will likely be a DD40, not DD 36, but not for the size....for the deconstructed romans and improved movement. If Rolex puts those on the 36, I would likely forgo the 40.

I think unless your wrist is either extremely small or large, any rolex between
36mm-41mm should be good

I love trying on watches and my wrist isn't that big, but when I try on a watch less than 40mm it seems better suited for my wife.
Looks perfect to me - what size wrist?
I have an 8" wrist and would love a 36mm DD but sadly they just look comically small on me.

"Sir - thats a womens size watch". Ive had that exact line said to me twice.

Absolutely ridiculous. Laughable even.

There is no accounting for taste.

If I could afford a 36mm DD I would wear it every day. I have 7.5 inch wrists.

To OP,
The DD 36mm looks absolutely fine on you and your wrist isn’t exactly large so I’m not sure what your problem is??
The DD is an elegant dress watch so you can’t compare it to those huge AP ROO in your collection.

my 36mm datejust was my daily wearer for 28 years. i never thought it was too small.
i was at my local rolex dealer today looking at the 40 mm yg day date, and it just seems
to wear big. perhaps because of all the yellow gold and sparkly fluted bezel,
but the yellow 36 day date just seems to look right. it's gold, but isn't in your face.

IMO the 'problem' is that you have several, much bigger watches which makes your DD look small in comparison.

I think us multiple-watch collectors all have the same. I own a DJII as well as a DD 36mm. My DJII is everyday and only wear the DD on 'ocassions'. Being fully used to the DJII always makes the DD look small. However, I assume other here will think it is perfectly sized for my wrist regardless as well.

I have 6.75 in wrists. I have a Speedy (42mm), Sub (40mm), DJ (36mm) and a 64 Heuer Carrera (35mm).

Love them all but the DJ 126200 is my daily go too. My favorite. I’m looking at a OP (34mm) or another DJ36 as my next watch.

The bigger ones don’t keep the others from falling out of favor. If anything it’s the opposite for me. Good luck to all!!

Agreed 36 mm is better suited for females, too small.

A 36mm is beautifully sized in a bracelet-y fashion look. Worn slightly loose, I prefer it over the bigger references.
