A question for 5712 owners

5712 is the PP that I admire the most, however the only thing holding me back is the lack of 5 and 7 o'clock mark. It is hard to read the minute hand when they are around 5 or 7 mark. I wonder if this problem bothers you?

Imagine staring at your watch during a meeting for 2-3 seconds to read the exact time, it is a bit impolite.

Here is an example from a forum member's post, can you read the exact time from a glance?

No it doesn't. From pics and before i bought it, i was actually concerned about telling the time between 3 and 6 though. 5 and 7 didn't even occur to me. I do know what you mean though.

So far, in real life, its not a problem at all.

Make sure to get a 3712 then youŽll have at least a 7 o'clock mark.

Even counting with my fingers, I still can not tell whether the time on the picture is 11:22 or 11:23. I admit that this is the prettiest watch face. I just can't get over the fact that a 40k watch can not show the exact time properly. Same with 5270. The first time I saw the 5270, it took my breath away, so beautiful. Then I noticed the curve at the bottom, it was like undressing a beautiful women, then finds out that "she has a dick". Sorry about the language, I am a little OCD, I hope PP come up with a solution for these designs.

You bring up a reason why some people don't get/like the 5712 - the quirkiness of the dial. You'll get it, or you won't. I get it, and I love this watch.

Regarding the 5270, you can avoid your "concern" and get the third generation. No "chin". Here's an example.

Having the 5712, and OCD, I can tell you with 100% that the lack of minute indicators between where the 20 through 23 minute markers would be is a complete NON-FACTOR as to whether to get this watch.

First, it is completely irrelevant 93.3% of the time.

Second, even if the time is between 20-23 after the hour, how often do you need to precisely know that?

Third, the '15' on the seconds dial lines up perfectly were the 20 indicator would be, so you can't use that as the "4 o'clock" index (and the line below the 30 indicator on the seconds dial 'points' to the "5 o'clock" or 20 minute indicator.

Fourth, this watch dial is truly one of a kind. You never see any other dials looking anywhere close to this dial, from Patek or anyone else. I find that immensely enjoyable. I even have non-watch people compliment me on the watch without even knowing what a Patek is. Good luck having that happen with a 5711...

Fifth, micro-rotor!

Sixth, love the watch, love the dial! Now go buy it (if you can find one!)

Point of order - the watch is showing the exact time, the only problem is that you can't read it!

I find the 5712 to be a paragon of clarity at a glance, the main reason being because it doesn't have an annoying/distracting centre seconds hand.

I think most of us can instinctively tell the time just from the hands now. Lots of watches don't have hour markers at all.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and pictures. The reason I think it as a problem is that I always end up flipping a watch that has some tiny details that I don't like. I've been falling in love madly with 5712, I hope this watch will be a keeper.

5712 is my grail, so I say go for it! Besides, if you've got a 5712 you're probably the boss anyway, so the meeting starts when you're good and ready!

Yeah, it's a minor regret, particularly since the 5270g-019 is now discontinued, although I hope the 5270r is discontinued in Basel 2018 and then it will have the same production run (if I'm not mistaken).

I do have a 5270r in its place, which offers a very different (a more elegant/dressy, less sporty) feel. I just need to cut its seal!

P.S. It's also the only non-white metal watch in my collection so it adds some variety.

My 5270r is also the only non-white that I have and I love it. It has a warmth and style that the others do not. It is in a class all its own. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. I hope you let your's out and wear it in good health.

That's funny mate... I hesitated for the same reason long ago when I was considering this watch. Now I just don't care... yes it hard to tell the exact time when you are in that 15 mins window... but who cares.... I only wear my 5712 socially and so never a real issue!
