You have me checking the configurator now! I'm going DJ41 as suddenly my old DJ36 looked too small on my 7 1/2" wrist... So I joined the sheep and traded it against a Sub a month ago... But it's not floating my boat (lack of gold?), so I'm considering... ...the issue with this is the off-white lumed batons with yellow gold edges against the silver dial. Clashes a little? Better in Champagne perhaps?... Or the "Wimbledon" dial (on jubilee, not oyster)... I guess I'm just a sucker for the bi-metal look, "old fashioned" as it is! But all "silver"... hmmm... ...this does away with the yellow gold edges to the batons on the TT version. And just spotted the dark rhodium dial too... Choices... choices...!! What would you go for if you were me, preferring bi-metal over steel & white gold? Thanks for any help!! |

Great choice congrats! A classic reference that will go anywhere and do anything.

Very nice! I just was at King's Jewelry a week ago while on a trip to D.C. / Virginia. Googled watch shops nearby in Alexandria and it came up haha. Small world.

Welcome, Date-Just

Funny, I think we are at 180 degrees. I have long shied away from two tone. In recent months, though, as I gave thought to a Datejust, I've been tempted to go two tone for a change. I considered the classic champagne dial, the white and the silver. I leaned towards silver. It played down the yellow gold elements and blended nicely with the case. I didn't feel there was any clash, color wise, between the baton color and the silver. The white dial also played down the gold effect, but added a new color to the mix. Champagne was classic, as noted, and blended, of course, with the gold. It was, to my eye, the most quintessential combination, which, from a collector standpoint, is a selling point. Also, I don't have any watch with that dial color. Problem: I just am not crazy about the champagne color. Dial aside, it is strictly baton markers for me. Don't personally dig Roman numerals (except, obviously, the tiny Roman numerals atop the batons on my new watch). I hang on to watches, so I ultimately went with but appealed to me, emotionally, the most...the one I bought. This, despite it looking like a closely related brother of my silver dial, 36mm OP. But, it's my really taste--the internal debate settled when I picked up the silver dial/white gold/jubilee/baton marker Datejust in the shop. I recommend you go with your gut. Don't intellectualize the decision. I think purchases are most satisfying when it just feels right. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
