What would you buy...considering a first Rolex.
Hey everyone, I'm looking to draw from the collective experience here.
I currently have a Black Bay and a couple of Oris divers, and I'm planning to change it up. I would like to sell off the Orises and replace them with a Rolex. My current plan is to keep my BBN. The options I'm considering are: - Sub-C ND - Explorer II - Explorer I Prefer black dials, and having a dress watch doesn't really interest me. High quality bracelets are important though, which is one of the main reasons the Sub if calling, in addition to its iconic appearance. Help me out? |

It's hard to beat a sub for your first Rolex. So, you couldn't go wrong with that choice.
However...since you've already got a BB, maybe the EXP2 for a little change up in functionality? The EXP2 is very close to the top of my list of steel must haves. |

I would suggest going to your local AD and try on the models on your list see how they look and feel on your wrist. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices on your list. If I had to make the choice for you I would pick the Submariner like you said it's Iconic

The sub is pretty hard to beat, especially if you're a fan of divers

SubC but I personally like the date feature and the Cyclopes is an inherit Rolex feature. But I get the ND is true to the heritage of the Sub so up to you really.

Try the GMTc as well and then just pick the one you love the most, all winners.

I would visit an AD and try some watches on. I would choose a Submariner.

If sub is too similar to black bay, try a GMT, same feel as sub with useful complication. Definitely try on many pieces before buying. Good luck!

GMT is cool and is certainly an iconic piece. Though if you enjoy Divers absolutely can't go wrong with Sub. EX2 is alright, but always thought portions of it felt out of proportion...crown too small hands too fat, owned it for about 2 months and flipped it...but YMMV on that one.

Out of the 3 on your short list I'd go with the 114060 without a doubt.

Picked up a Sub C no date on Saturday. Do it!
The watch is a great combination and pictures do not do it justice. |

Always great to try on the cream of the SS lines: SubC, GMTc, EXPII and even Daytona and SkyD if your pocket allows.

You honestly can't go wrong with any of these. However, that being said, I'd choose either the Sub or the Explorer I. Both are classic Rolex designs, which gives you a bit of heritage the II doesn't have. After that, I think it's preference on looks and price. The Explorer I is a good bit cheaper, but the Sub is the prototypical diver's watch.
Personally, I bought the Explorer I because I preferred the more classic look given it's primary function (I generally wear mine at the office).
