Advice on DJ 41 Purchase

Hey guys, new member.

I love watches, and I now own a few low end models (Citizen, Seiko etc.). I'm in college, and my business and investments have been doing well so I want to pick up a Rolex.

I really like the Date Just 41, fluted w the Jubilee. I also like the diamond indices, although the sticks look good too with the Rhodium or Blue dial.

My question is, how is the resale on these watches? My dream watch is a DD40 Rose Gold with the olive dial, but it's just not practical to drop $28k on a watch at this point in my life, so I want to start with something a little less pricey.

If I buy a new DJ41 for lets say $8-10k depending on diamonds or not, how will the resale be in a few years? I have no problem spending the money on a watch, so long as I can get maybe half of my money back on resale. I don't consider it an "investment" like some, but it's at least an asset.

Any other thoughts on the process of buying a first Rolex would be appreciated, I'm very excited!

I would expect a 20-30% fall, depending on private or dealer sale, in a couple of years so no big deal. Diamonds will have fewer buyers so harder resale, blue will be best.

Go blue/fluted/jubilee and NO diamonds. All will be well.

Yes that is genuinely good advice. The DJ41 is a future classic and the spec recommended above is genuinely the best.

Black would also be good.

With a couple of price increases over a five year period you'll probably get your money back

Yeah stay away from the diamond indices unless you really love them.
I really like the dark rhodium dial... go with the one that sings to you when you try them on.

I would go rhodium with sticks...go with a smooth bezel and save yourself about 2k. Also, wait a little and let the price settle and buy one pre-owned to save a little bit more.

Advice on DJ 41 Purchase

Maybe focus on a watch you really like and want to wear and that resale has no bearing.

Smooth bezel/jubilee bracelet can't go wrong. Cheaper than the fluted bezel by a decent amount and you shouldn't lose much when the DD40 kicks down the door. You may not want to get rid of the DJ41 anyway. It's one of my favorites right now and I have the DD40.

Gorgeous!

I personally love the flute/jub combo. I decided to nix the diamonds though. Just picking between rhodium and blue, gonna try them both on tomorrow and I'll report back.

Thanks!

Treat your 1st Rolex as your lifelong faithful companion, shower her with lots of Love and Respect, to be considered as a Family Heirloom.

For Once in your life stop putting words like pricey, business, resale, investments, assets, money back guarantee in a sentence or paragraph !

You are just so privileged at such a young age.All I had was a Swatch and Casio back in college with zero business acumen!

I completely support this because if you buy something you don't REALLY want just to have good resale value, you will be reselling it rather quickly.

I know there is a lot of motivation to preserve value but if you don't LOVE the watch for what it is, and enjoy wearing it, what is the point?

I have a new DJ41 with MOP diamond dial. I'll never recover in resale the % that a different dial will provide, but I don't intend to sell it, and I care mostly that I truly enjoy that dial!!!

I would try to get one through a trusted seller for a decent price to keep your initial investment lower in case you trade it in for your DD at a latter time.

Like others have said the Diamond dial would be best avoided if that was the intention as it would be tougher to get more of your initial investment back.

Honestly, just get what sings to you. Don't focus on future value/appreciation as watches are NOT an investment. Also, you cannot go wrong with many Rolexes unless you choose one you are not 100% sure you like.

I noticed a post from 2009 yesterday saying the TT DJII was £5,950.

The similar DJ41 is £9,350 today.

So, although your watch will lose value, the price of new ones keeps rising. Yours will rise in value against the RRP as it falls in value over time.

If you have to have a watch, a Rolex is as good a guard against inflation as you can get. But don't expect to make money unless you buy pre-owned. My 1994 DJ36 cost me £2,000 in 2002. Just sold it for £3,000.

I'd say invest some more until you buy the one of your dreams also investment is for long term so keep some money on the side as this market can turn any minute and you'd regret splashing 10k on a watch. Unless you have other income
