For those of you who have not been collecting rolexes for very long:

the term "California dial" is a euphemism for "redone in the manner of vintage 1940's and 1950's bubbleback and Viceroy dials that were popular in the 80's and 90's by a California firm to reflect these popular half Arabic half Roman dials"

Bubblebacks and Viceroys that had this half and half dial brought fabulous money back in the 80's and mid 90's.

So, back then, when dial refinishers were less strict about originality, especially one particular firm in California, collectors who had to redo or repaint a dial opted to use this California refinisher to refinish the dial in the most popular style.

Later, everyone started doing this. Original half Arabic and half Roman dials still bring good money. But now, scores of companies that redo dials (many of them overseas and in Canada, simply redo the dials for ANY Rolex, not just BB's and Viceroys and most disgustingly, simple Tudors.

To do this is just awful of course on any Rolex, but to make a Tudor look like a Rolex in this manner is really awful.

"California dial" just means a redone half arabic half roman dial.

...this is TRADEMARK INFRINGEMENT and is criminal, when someone uses the Rolex Crown on a Tudor dial (or any dial) and is a total MISREPRESENTATION of the watch.

I am glad you feel as we do about this troublesome trend of falsifying the dials on tudors to
make them appear as a rolex Jeff, when describing them- we took the term Rolex & Tudor and combined them and now refer to them as "Rudor" dials(in case you where wondering what we meant by the term Rudor)-lol.
