Dog Lovers

In the true spirit of Rin Tin Tin, this German Shepherd was told by his owner to "get help".

A building in Alaska had ignited and the owner managed to get out with some minor burns. He told "Buddy" to "get help".

A neighbor reported the fire, but the trooper's GPS was malfunctioning. The dog met him at an intersection and guided him to the building.

How is that for man's best friend....you can see the whole story of msnbc.com or abcnews.com, this is just the police dash cam video, no sound.

It was on the news tonight. I made my puppy watch it as a guide to what "good dogs" do.

What a fabulous video! Most of us own dogs that would lay down their lives for us. There is nothing like dog ownership. Dogs can melt your heart when they look at you with those soulful eyes. (The only real negative is their short life spans.)

That's the truth. Even though I'm crazy about my puppy I still get choked up when I talk about my dog Bandit that passed last November.

Believe me, I know how you all feel. I rescue Min Pins and Dachshies. I have had 6 dogs pass away in the last three years. They were all old or ill. That doesn't make it any better.

I currently have 9 dogs, 6 permanent and three up for adoption.....they are smart and I am blessed to be able to help them. Lucky is 17 and I expect to find her at peace any day.

I love dogs and my life has been made more meaningful by being the one to rescue them. I always find peace inthe knowledge that any dog that has passed through my home has had love and good care.

It is always great to see dogs doing spectacular things, like on this video. I emember watching Rin Tin Tin as a kid and I thought he was the greatest thing in the whole world.

It looks like the dog house was on fire in the back yard. Maybe he was worried about his own butt in the freezing snow!

I saw this story on cnn.com or msnbc.com earlier today but didn't have time to watch it so I made a mental note to make sure I looked it up later and promptly forgot all about it. Thanks for posting it Kaya. Dogs are just way too cool!

not to sound emo here, but this is the first news story in a long time that "got" to me

its amazing sometimes how humans (not at their fault) can almost get more moved by animal stories rather than other human stories

Great story!

I saw the real Rin Tin Tin in Albuquerque NM light years ago. I don't recall the names of the troopers (stars) with him.
