Not a big fan of films that followed Casino Royale, but that last scene with the car spinning and shooting looked fun.

Ha - come on! Being a fan of the franchise you have to respect what Craig brings to the table and the revitalization that he brought to Bond. I enjoy what all of the characters brought to the film in their own right - Craig turned up the intensity and took bond into the 21st century.

Skyfall... Hard to argue that's not one of the best.

I wrote this before I think but growing up seeing all the Bond films was always an adventure fantasy partly because they seemed to be in exotic locales but lately they seem more like Jason Bourne films, shot in Europe or Russia or Britain in the winter with cold blue tones and dark moody shots.

Think I prefer the sunny Bahamas.

But story-wise Skyfall was ok.

While everything you say is true ............................

Being raised up with the Bond character, watching was always a fabulous adventure in exotic places, with a lesson in suave sophistication. Now the Bond character seems more like a washed up special forces retiree on methamphetamines, versed in tacticool gear and special effects trickery fantasies derived in his parent’s basement.

I have a feeling that it splits by age: younger people like Craig, older like Connery and Moore. I was raised reading the books and in them, Bond was NOT an action figure, but a cool, sophisticated man. I miss that. The first couple of Bond films captured that; the rest not so much. We live in an age of superheroes, and Bond was made into one. Oh well.

As these later movies have gone along, they've tapped into an inner struggle within Bond that the earlier films didn't. As Craig portrays him, Bond is clearly not at ease with himself as an assassin, even if it is for Queen and Country. Yet it's what he is, what he knows, and also what he's best at. He's a man who knows his humanity is all but gone, and wants to get away from the MI6 life in hopes of salvaging what might be left of it, but he simply can't. His sins are too deep, too much a part of him.

I but into that theory a bit too my friend.

I admit to liking the current Bond, but he lacks some of the quirkiness and character of the older incarnations.

that shark mesh bracelet is definitely an acquired taste to me, but probably a good investment piece considering it is Daniel Craig last Bond movie.

So what you are saying is you want some old 60's character that is still putting hair strands in the doorway and karate chopping someone in the neck all the while, being a playboy. This just goes to show your age and refusal to progress mentally in to the 21st Century with a character. These are not period movies.
The James Bond you speak of and the characters that played him did so in their timeline.

Daniel Craig dragged James Bond into the modern world, kicking and screaming. He is still dealing in high stakes adventures in exotic places, I've scene Africa, Morocco, Italy, and London just to name a few, and that's just Daniel Craig's Bond.

This is on set filming of the motorcycle jump scene. This is what makes Daniel Craig's Bond my favorite. He is dynamic, agile, energetic, smart, brutal and above all else, he seems more human(that washed up attitude you speak of). None of the other characters could have pulled off that chase/running scene at the beginning of Casino Royale the way Craig did.

While Sean Connery is the original and nostalgia plays a big part in why I like him so much, Daniel Craig has transcended to become my favorite.

Actually the opposite could be argued.

Turning the Bond character into an action figure/superhero requires less thought, imagination, and human interaction comprehension, thus a mental digression for viewers.

Agreed - each actor has always put their own twist on the franchise. First - the Connery and Moore Bond just wouldn't work now for obvious reasons- the humor would get lost in the me too mentality. Also, the action sequences in the films now are by far the best they've ever been. Bond used to set the bar for action sequences and exotic locations which was part of the appeal - there's now a lot of competition using that same combination to draw viewers - Bond still gets it right with this.

Oh and nostalgia is welcome - who doesn't love Connery and Moore - but we have to be able to embrace the future of the franchise as well.

I always like Connery partly because he seemed pretty close to the books. Roger Moore merely replayed "the Saint" a Brit TV show character and to me was terrible.

I get this has to do with your age and when you first started seeing the movies but I think the character needs to be close to the Fleming created character.

Daniel Craig for me is the closest to Connery on his actions, meanness and I agree he is very good in the franchise for today.

I don't think these are popularity contests but should follow the character that was originally created. Which is why I hate Tom Cruse as Reacher. Reacher was 6ft 6 inches in the books and his signature move was headbutting people. Tom Cruise can barely head but someone in the groin.

Léa Seydoux is already a fox but who's the new Bond girl with the dark hair and the dress? Hot damn.

I think the problem with the Bond franchise began when the films stopped following the books (stopped having a plot). The idea was to compensate for a decent plot with gimmicks, stunts and outlandish characters.
Roger Moore was laughable as Bond because he had nothing to work with. With a decent plot and good lines he would have been good.
I read all the books in my teens and loved Connery in the role because he matched the character in the books, but I have to say that Craig is easily the most 3 dimensional Bond and his four movies have been outstanding.

The opening shot and the car chase scene were filmed in Matera, Italy. I was there on holiday in September while they were filming. There's even a Rolex AD there. No stock though - I checked.
