Works of art.. how much would you pay...
https://miami.cbslocal.com/2019/12/0...-at-art-basel/
I thought buying a sub for 10k was bad.... “ MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Arguably one of the most talked-about works of art at this year’s Art Basel was a banana duct-taped to a wall that sold for $120,000......” |

Your "investment" will be moldy and rotten inside 2 week. What is the point? My only thought is money laundering.
I was required to take modern art classes when attending the university and I had a pretty bad opinion that most modern art was garbage and the people that supported it were strange. I left with pretty much the same opinion. It really shows wealth inequity in the world when the price of a small house can be thrown away by two people on garbage art. |

I might tape an apple to a wall. Then sell it. Then I’ll duct tape an Apple,iPad next time around.

Not trying to be judgmental or cruel, but the buyer's a fool.
I wouldn't have paid a penny more than 100K.

I agree any art would be a great money laundering method. What’s to stop someone from buying an ice cube for 10 million $... buying it from a relative. Couldn’t any drug dealer simply buy art from people he or she knows,...then allow the seller to keep a percentage after the fact , etc.. in other words, I pay 10 million for an ice cube, then the seller gives me back 9.95 million in return via a shell company.... I’m quite sure this has been done many times. It’s how Wall Street works as well.

It's a business like any other. Sometimes phony. Sometimes a crooked business.
There are con-men, there are suckers, and there are criminals.

How would you feel? Someone just ate my work of art.
What next? Polish off a Picasso? Masticate a Miro? Chew a Cezanne?

I would say, support artists, they hold the mirror up to society no matter how reticules it may seem. While I agree a fruit taped to the wall might not the most sound investment, it supports the art and review that we all need. So, Thank you to the artist, the gallery taking the risk and the patron will;long to spend his money. Let’s keep it, ya’ll...

The only mirror this guy is holding is the one that Alice went through.

The guy who ate the banana was applauded...

The purpose of art is to initiate an emotional response.
Which can lead to a physical response. Nobody died. Move on. |

It wasn't ever about the Banana. It was about the duct tape.

In place of where the banana was, it now says....

I like the thought behind it; the principle, if you will (or even if you won't). But the actual execution is a slippery slope for art.
