Tudor Sub 79090 - Rust

Can anyone help with suggesting the correct action to take? This sub was passed down to me years ago and I have not had any issues until this morning when i took a look i noticed a dark spot which seems to be rust.

Mine had the same when I got it. It's a simple cleaning that needs to be done during servicing.

It may not be rust but a combination of rust, grime, and sweat that seeps into the the micro space between the bottom edge of the crystal and the midcase.

Optics of the acrylic crystal amplify it into the top of the crystal.

You will now see this on most every vintage plexi sub that has not been cleaned in a while .

Any suggestions for me to get this serviced or cleaned? I think this watch was last serviced in 2007, does it need to go to an AD and have them ship it out?

Search this forum for service places near you - probably multiptle in NY area.

Yes, if it 13 years since last service it needs one. Have the watchmaker thoroughly clean the case, no polish, and replace the crystal if they cannot easily get the grime off. Be sure to mention how this is important to you.

Leave everything as intact as possible.

Rust and or dirt where the rehaut meets the crystal in a 79090 means it’s authentic, LOL. It’s a very common 79090 “feature”. It will clean up well at service. I haven’t found good reliable service in NYC. I send my Tudors to LA Watch Works in California. I’ve had mixed results with Rolex Service Center NY it always worked out in the end but took multiple visits. With RSC it’s important to request and receive verification that you only want a movement service. No replacement of hands dials etc.

My 7021 And 79090 have this brown surface rust. I still swim with mine each day in the summer.

My 79090 had the same rust and it was a regular companion on may scuba trips with zero issues. I sent it off to Philip Ridley a few months ago and all is well and a full service with super dome acrylic to boot.

Yes. Without cyclops. I love the look. Ridley said crystal should last 15-20 years so a good investment as well.
