Cross country drive in 27 hours 25 min

No tickets averaging 103 mph. Mercedes e63 amg. No further comments your honor.

Just love stuff like this.

Every man needs to cut loose and chase a dream even if the consequences may be dire. It adds the spice to life and frees the mind to think and act boldly.

in short.

Cool

I’d have thought they’d be stopped longer for all the fuel they use in that car

Wow. I absolutely love this.

But I wonder...have they incriminated themselves? Can they get busted for this? Top speed is mind boggling...but clearly possible in certain areas of the country. If caught they would have been in jail.

Would love to attempt to beat it.

I once did Denver to NYC solo in 28 hours. It was painful to say the least.

Avg 103 mph, max 193 mph, public roads, joyful proclamation......................

seems like a recipe to legal disaster.

I have mixed feelings.

Interesting feat and I commend the effort but I suspect that even under the best intentions they have increased the risk for some motorists. Perhaps not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but a dangerous example for unskilled wannabes.

Now, I’ve never driven through the cornfields in the Midwest - but 193MPH max speed seems insane to me, no?

Not a car guy, so I might be wildly off with that assumption...

I once did LA to Chicago on $52 worth of gas. My Saturn wouldn’t reach 103mph downhill, with a tailwind, being towed by a rocket.....much less average it.

I heard that the car was fitted with an auxiliary gas tank.
When they stopped for gas they used two pumps to fill the tanks simultaneously.

While it’s an interesting story, the speeds, both average and top, are reckless. The effort would have commendable without putting others at risk. Probably not newsworthy, but still commendable.

For everyone lamenting the fact that his was done on public roads, yes you have a point. However it has become a cult tradition of attempting to “cannonball” across the country and break the current record.

Love it! Not saying it’s a wise thing to do but still love it. Anyone remember the movie Canon Ball run from the early 80’s??

Meanwhile Blake Wilkey gets his buggy deported for driving recklessly through San Diego. Not to mention almost 26 charges later. He did sorta get away with it.

Unlike the others here, I think your actions are ridiculously careless and a willful disregard to the safety of others....but that's just 20 years of LE speaking, seeing how vehicle speed exacerbates the end results of a collision. I couldn't care less if you kill yourself, but it's a shame others chance suffering from your stupidity.

Agree!

The soldiers overseas and the people who protect us here on home soil what a slap in the face this kind of antiquated self-serving BS is to them!! When I think of those who protect the roads and use the roads, who just want to be able to get home at the end of the day, it makes me sick. If you like speed, get on a controlled closed course, leave the public out of it!!

For the record this is not me officer I am just reporting a crazy story that popped up on my apple news. I drive a 3 ton SUV with snow tires.

I fall into the mixed feelings camp on this. I think wow that's amazing and then I think they look incredibly douchey standing next to that benz.

One unfortunate timing of events and they could easily be the a$$holes of the year for killing another motorist. But, they didn't and they have a record that's pretty incredible. I honestly think the fact that they averaged 103 for 27 hours without getting a ticket on American highways is the most unbelievable portion of the story.

Having driven a similar vehicle as a daily for a few years I can say that 103 in that car is like going 60 in the average ford explorer or what have you.

Mixed camp as well.

And while I understand the sentiment behind the annoyance, it seems a bit much. Certainly not a “slap in the face”.

The right roads in this country are vast and long. You can drive for hundred and hundreds of miles without seeing another car. And it’s easy to get your averages up when you are doing 193 on a long open road.

You don’t break boundaries and records without risk. You don’t innovate and you don’t create by staying within the lines. It’s the human spirit to challenge oneself.

Yes, this is wildly irresponsible, wreckless and dangerous. But it’s also a fun story about a record being broken. Heck, there is a classic movie about this exact feat, with the exact same name.

I tend to drive like an 80 year old grandmother these days, unless I’m on the track, but this is still very cool to me.

Wow, this record keeps getting broken. First Alex Roy, then Ed Bolian (vinwiki guy), and this.

I didn't have a chance to read the full article yet but pretty cool.

Imagine a carload of your loved ones all dying and then tell me how great this is. Can you you even imagine the carnage?
Call me biased but as a former accident reconstructionist and the guy knocking on doors in the middle of the night to let you know that your wife/kids/parents are dead this makes me shudder. Imagine having to have to do that on Christmas Eve, you have to make this notification. Have any of you ever had to do this? I have and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
Not something that should be rewarded or celebrated.
This is stupid, shameful and reckless.
