Beware of email: mattherrara58@gmail.com (BEWARE OF ANY NON-TRF MESSAGES)

I received an email from: mattherrara58@gmail.com (Matt Herrera) who is trying to impersonate the real Matt Herrera, mattherrera58@gmail.com *notice last name spelling.

I have confirmed with the real Matt Herrera that this is NOT him, so buyers, please beware!!

God bless,
Paul

Thank you Paul. Please be careful as it appears at least 3 people have been contacted by this scammer via WTB ads.

There should not be a WTB area, or only trusted sellers from this forum should be allowed to respond.

I hate the term "trusted seller". Many "trusted sellers" have gone bad. You are only as good as your last deal. If you are buying do your homework. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If something doesn't add up walk away. WTB ads are a great tool for people to get in contact with other collectors and or dealers that may just have what they are looking for.

Many "trusted Sellers" have gone bad ? Don't think I'd throw "Many" around like that......

Beware!

I received an email from "mattherera58@gmail.com". Definite scammer. Claims to have a vintage Zenith I'm looking for and offered it at very low price. No response when I asked for pictures. STAY AWAY from this dirt bag.

My real email is MATTHERRERA58@gmail.com....

Also my cell is 505-504-2838 or 505-990-9956. Please be careful it appears some poor soul has wired this scammer 50k for a gold AP.

PLEASE USE CAUTION.

OMG what a bastard!!!!. Why doesn't the victim just contact the cops about the wire. Wire's are traceable and no banks is gonna give out 50k in cash in one shot. the scammer is going to need to request the amount. But he might just write himself a certified cheque and off he go's. SO sad that he lost 50K. Shit when dealing in those amounts i would never deal over the web. Only face to face for anything over 10K. Lesson learned " if you're willing to drop anything over 10K just meet the person face to face. I know of a man in Montreal who bought an AP from a seller in Florida. The victim went to Florida to meet the man and even ended up buying the watch. He get's back to MTL only to find out the casing was real but the mechanics were fake. He was out about 25k. The rose gold case was worth about 12k and he has paid 35K. Go's to show you never really know unless you're buying from a Rolex AD BNIB.

This stinks I hope this guy gets caught and punished. Matt is there a way the scammer logged on here as a different member? If so do can you give the details?

Matt Herrera would never do something like this. He's a gentleman

All of these email addresses look "throwaway" to me and I'd be wary.

One, however, belongs to a seller with references, the others could be registered by me and then used in a criminal manner as was seemingly the case.

I assume the wire was to a Matt Herrera or very similar, a clever bank fraud. If not then my mine boggles.

All emails "off TRF".

I look forward to the time that we can clamp down on this by undertaking measure to help the unwary trusting absolutely strangers and scammers. Hopefully sooner than later.

Thanks so much. I am in contact with the individual who was scammed. He wired to Champlain, Illinois. I offered to help in any way I could.

This individual has contacted people off of TRF TZ WUS and Paneristi. I am only aware of one victim to this point. Please please be careful.

As things materialize I will provide more information. This is all I have at this point.

Matt

This sucks....big time. There are def more scammers out there then ever.

A quick google of an email address can tell you a lot. Take every precaution you deem necessary to be safe. In this case, it could have helped.

Good tip for folks doing high dollar transactions might be to pay a few dollars and get your own domain. It would make it hard for someone to pull this scam if you used something other than gmail.

Absolutely. +10000000

I always chuckle when a supposed professional whatever has a hotmail, gmail or yahoo email.

If you're in business, be in business. The $50/yr it costs to maintain a domain is like a business card. Speaking of business cards, I don't trust them either... Unless professionally printed. I always feel for the perfs along the edges. But I digress.

It's also a good idea to look at the email's full header when the sellers/users use free emails such as gmail/yahoo etc.. It will show where the email's IP of origin, and you could look up its' location via sites like www.iplocation.net. Not foolproof, but just another useful tool.
