Hello from Singapore
I stumbled upon this site when I was looking for more information on the 1570 movement for the 1603 series. I am contemplating if I should get a pre-own 1603 which is more than 40 years old. Any advise from fellow members would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to TRF!
How is the condition of that Rolex, and what price did the seller have in mind??

Welcome,
Early DJ's can be a good buy... A decent freshly serviced 1603 can be had for 1,000 to 1,500 US or there-a-bouts.. Compared to a new one at 6,000 and you have a fine time-piece that should last you another 40 years with proper up-keep. |

I am not well versed in the condition. From the pictures, it looks fine, except with an aftermarket bracelet. The seller is looking at US1100. |

Welcome!
There are collectors and watchmakers whom I have the greatest respect for that feel the 15xx movements were the best movements Rolex made. Over engineered monsters that could take all kinds of abuse and keep going. |

Welcome Ron, the 160X range is one of my favorites.
They have the famous 1575 Rolex movement, a movement which in other Rolex models can cost you over US$10,000 (e.g. 1665 Sea-Dweller). The 1601 is probably my favorite of the series and is denoted by it's fluted bezel. The 1603 which you are interested in buying is denoted by it's engine turned bezel. I personally like the fluted bezel as it adds a bit of bling and reflects the light more from it cut edges. Then there is the 1600 which is denoted by the flat bezel, and oyster bracelet. The watches are extremely wearable for any occasion. They have a triple lock crown and are good to go down -50meters. Here is the 1601 Here is the 1600 I prefer the ones with the hacking movement. In the photo shown by you Ron, the caseback looks like it might have been overly polished. |
