$15,000 for one watch

If you had $10-15,000 to spend for one watch in the secondary market what would it be.

Hodinkee travel clock.

Why don’t you instead share a bit of what YOU are thinking?

Seiko Automatic Diver and pocket the rest. Wouldn't want to buy a watch on the secondary market when prices are above MSRP.

I would not buy on the secondary market and pay 25% to 100% surcharge over MSRP. Just me

If only having 1 watch...
1. explorer 214270 @ about 8k and keep the rest (this option is most attractive economically)
2. 41mm sub, 124060 (preferred) vs. 126610LN
3. steel DJ41 on a jubilee

Can't go wrong with any of the above as a 1-watch'er

G-Shock for about $120 and invest the rest in a safe place.
Don't buy any watch above MSRP

Unless it’s a model that is not in production I wouldn’t buy any watch from the secondary market.

I would go to a Rolex AD and buy a TT submariner or GMT.

GMTII 116710LN Bought one new in 2014, loved it but stupidly flipped it in 2016. Since being discontinued the secondary market has gone sky high. Just today a trusted gray dealer has an unworn one listed at $18K+.

I'd try to scrape together another $1-2k and buy a previous generation VC Overseas chronograph (49150), preferably in black. I don't really see the temptation in overpaying for a current production watch at a grey dealer.

Wow, a surprising amount of SD4K's call outs here - didn't think it was that popular

If something sings to you at that price, go for it. To me, I don’t have anything I’d like right now at that price point so I personally would keep saving and apply that 15k to help cover the taxes on a piece I really want :)
