Watch for a bar mitzvah?

My sister’s boyfriend’s son is getting bar mitzvahed. January 2018. We are going to give him a cash gift, but I would also like to give him a watch.

I was thinking mechanical. Seiko makes an automatic Pepsi diver as a Seiko 5.

I think Casios are not what I have in mind. I would like the kid to find out what a mechanical watch is.

I am thinking $100-150 as a budget.

Seikos are fantastic at that price point, can't go any better.

You'd pay twice that for any nice G-shock anyway

Difficult to beat Seiko. Just make sure the size fit. Some seiko diver may wear large.

seiko 5 sport on a canvas strap. If you give him a watch on a bracelet, and he has a whole pile of gifts, then sadly it might never get sized

Good point about sizing the bracelet.

Mazel Tov. And I agree with Star Ferry about giving him a Seiko on a strap rather than a bracelet which must be sized.

may want to look at one of the auto Swatch models too. their irony line and new automatics aren't that bad for a young man, and you can get one that suits his non-watch interests. its also a bit more trendy than a Seiko.

I received a Victorinox Swiss Army watch for my Bar Mitzvah. Mine was similar to the one below, only with a white dial. I wore it nearly every day for the next ten years, only maintenance was replacing the battery (yes, it's a quartz) and strap every few years. Size makes it very wearable for a smaller wrist. Street price is toward the lower end of your range.

You can check out Ashford for some pretty inexpensive Victorinox watches. They may fit what you are looking for.

Seiko would be a great choice always practical and refined.

To me, Seiko is the best option in this price range. It's a watch that he may very well still have decades later as part of any collection.
