RO 15450-white or grey dial? Discounts?

I went watch shopping yesterday and was able to try on some ROs' for the first time. My impression was that the 15400 was too large but the 15450 felt 'right'.

Having got over my initial reservations regarding wearability, i need to decide between the white and grey dials. I thought the white dial is nice (and more traditional) but the grey seemed to pop out a little bit more. Going thru this forum, most mentions of the 15450 is in white dial with few of the greys. Is this a new option that was introduced recently?

If you have the option, would you choose the white or grey dial?

In terms of pricing, one AD (white dial) offered 10% whilst the other (listed multi-national) initially said pricing on SS sports models are firm. After some gentle persuasion, 5% was offered.

For a SS 15450, what level of discounts can be expected/can I (reasonably) push for?

Going to visit them again today. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I just purchased the exact same one in the UK and got 15% off it. I was quite happy with this discount. I went for the white dial.

level of discounts vary but i can tell you that the 15450 is not hard to find in the UK and we have a serious AP shortage, so even here I imagine a decent discount is obtainable. I saw 3 in an AD's window on Thursday. 15400's dont sit in the AD's window very long before those are snatched up. Being midsize it cuts into the demand vs the 15400. Good thing for you though.

I think the silver dial is the best, but its just a matter of preference as there isnt a bad choice.

I'd go for the ruthenium. Should be able to get 10% plus, but maybe more on white as the ruthenium is newer, out last SIHH.

This. Both dials look great, but I was really struck by the ruthenium when I tried it on

I’d go white dial. Can’t really comment on price in Oz but in the states 20-25% all day. Probably not indicative of pricing there unfortunately.

Thanks all. At first, I liked the ruthenium-grey more but when I went back the next day, I felt that the grey is too close to the SS and do not stand out as much. But from a value-retention perspective (and I use that term loosely), it came out 4 yrs after the model was introduced, so there’ll likely be fewer of them at end of production.

I recognise that each market is different but I wants to get a sense of what’s possible. May go back with an offer and see where it leads.

You hit the nail on the head my friend! Ruthenium dial seems cool BUT in real life blends in too much with the case and bracelet. I’d go with the white dial

In January 2016 I was able to pick up a brand new 'white' (it's actually silver) dial 15450 from an AD in New York for mid-$11.5k and I'm sure they broke even or made a little on top. This was around when the chinese stock market crashed though, which had a lot to do with watches being so discounted. Anyways, if you go grey-market or email some ADs abroad I'm sure you can get one at around $13k.

PS, I'd bet that blue dial 15450 is gonna be the most sought after in the long-term (see 15300 prices for reference) and you really get that POP.

That is my issue with some grey watches, esp if there is no real other colour on the dial.

I’ve discounted the grey dial as an option.

So the choice is now between white and blue dials. I don’t expect discount on the blue so am unsure if the price premium is worth paying.

Hi, I got the deal from Rox in Scotland. Watches of Switzerland would only offer £300 off. I dealt with a brand manager called Ashley, lovely person to deal with.

My local AD agreed to take 15% off but they only have the white (or grey) dial with no access to the blue. They insists that the latter is exclusive to boutiques but that appears to be country dependent.

Called boutiques in SIN and HK. SIN has no stock whereas HK has, but any discount appears unlikely.

if you are talking about the 37mm it isn't. However, I get that the standard response from dealers is blue dials are boutique only as that has historically been the case. Give it some time, they are bound to show up especially since there isnt a boutique on the entire continent of Australia as im assuming that is where you are from.

In the UK, the blue 37mm can be purchased in AD's. Another member got 10% off the blue one from Rox in the last week.

I would choose the blue and pay full retail if there were no discounts on offer, I'd always buy the watch not the price.

Sound advice Neil, I am also starting to look at these and am half thinking about selling the Aquanaut to fund it (given the crazy prices these are going for).

Not sure dealer' are bidding as much as you'd think, they do like a wide spread, but not a bad time to take advantage of the rising price.

I was bid 14,250 GBP by WF on my not so mint 5167 from early 2016. I consider that pretty good.

Wouldn't sell it for a 15450 though.

I think that's pretty low considering they'd ask around £17.5K. Mid 2017 one there for over £18K now.
