Rolex Milgauss Z blue selling over retail?

Hello,

I just read a article from Hodinkee about the Rolex Milgauss Z blue and in the article it mention that the Rolex Milgauss Z blue was selling over retail. I've only been in the Rolex game for a year, can the season collectors confirm this? How much over retail was it selling at the time? and how long after the release did this hype dive down?

Incorrect on many levels...the first Millie (modern) to cause a furor was the original GV. People did go nuts and there was a period of paying over retail. Not sure how long that lasted, however.

I looked at one at an AD about a month ago and was offered 10% off without any negotiating on my part, all I did was ask the price. I've never bought there before, so it's not like I'm a favorite customer.

readily available on gray market, which immediately tells you that dealers can't get list for it.

Hello Sir While I'm not at all a seasoned Rolex collector, far from it only an amateur raw rookie who knows more about the Omega brand than Rolex, I will offer my thoughts on when the hype about the Milgauss Z Blue 116400GV died down,my guesstimate is about 15-18 months after it was 1st announced in Baselworld 2014.

Ironically in this same event on the biggest watch show on earth, the Omega brand also introduced to the world the new Seamaster 300 Master Co Axial escapement Calibre 8400 ,the 1st anti magnet watch able to resist a magnetic force field >15000 Gauss so now the Milgauss had a worthy challenger.I cannot comment on other countries but the SM 300 M CoAx took an unusually long time to arrive in Malaysia, and made its debut in the Omega boutique in my city( if memory serves me correctly) somewhere in July- Aug 2015 ! The Spectre LE watch came 2 months later just before the movie was released.

The SM 300 M CoAx then became very popular here with budget conscious buyers, dive watch collectors and fellow watch Geeks in the WIS circle.I should know because I was one of them, choosing the SM 300 M over the Milgauss and bought mine in Dec 2015. However a friend in Singapore actually purchased a Milgauss Z Blue back in mid July 2015 for something like USD 8100. Now a brand new Z Blue here retails for USD 72xx. So there you go...

The hype over the original GV was even more intense. The was a rumour that it was to be Limited Edition when it first appeared, and it was selling for as much as double msrp for a while. Glad I wasn't on that bandwagon.
