The return of King Seiko
So this just got leaked...
As a huge King Seiko fan and owner, this is crazy exciting... 6L35 movement, 11.4mm thick. |

Interesting release, and only the second KS revival, I believe. You can get a minty 1960s original for about 1/3 the price of this model, though

There was the KS45 reissue in 2000, and you’re right about the vintage - I am lucky enough to have three KS44s, but they don’t come with a warranty and easily accessible parts! 😊

Yes, the SCVN001. I've almost bought one a couple of times but pricing put me off, again compared to the originals.

This should become a line. With GS moving up market, KS could bridge the gap nicely between Seiko and GS.

I want king seiko to become a line again too...get rid of presage, and get king seiko in there.

I think generally they should leave KS lie. In my eyes, they are the same level as GS, in some cases (44, 52), superior. To have the line revived to be explicitly inferior in the way Presage is would be a kick in the teeth of history.

I look at it more as a revival of what KS and GS represented in the past. GS have moved upmarket and occupy a different space than they did historically.

Or, as my all-time favourite Seiko watches are the Daini manual winds of the 60s and 70s, they should just return the old names, and have the Daini plant revive manual-wind King Seiko all on its own, with that proud thunderbolt on the dial ;) You and I have the same 4502-8010 by the way... |

If I read this correctly, it is limited to 3000 units, and MSRP is about US$ 3,500 . With another $ 1,000, you can get a Spring Drive , or as Adam suggested , you can get a mint KS old issue at 1/3 price. Not sue about this new issue.

I think it's about nostalgia, and though not Spring Drive or hi-beat, or unfortunately manual wind, t's a very respectable, relatively new movement. I would have preferred it regulated, though...

A revival of Daini and manual wind KS models would be freaking awesome. Ahhh. Awesome KS! I love winding that watch in the morning, very cathartic. Here is mine with my 6146-8000.

Gorgeous watches! I've often looked at the GS61s - gone so far as to try them on at the relevant Tokyo dealers, but there's something about the rotor oscillation of the vintage automatics that dates them in a way that the manual-winds don't...

Wholeheartedly agree. I love both equally, but you can definitely tell you are wearing a vintage watch with the GS61 rotor noise.

I don't know why they felt the need to add a date to this model; and so small and so far from the edge. They could have just reissued the 4402-8000 instead, or as well.

Agreed, I can’t get behind paying more for a reissue than for the original. |

Pretty average Vintage KS sells on Hodinkee immediately today.... there seems to be some growing interest from a broader watch community (vs like 2 years ago when Adam seemed to be the only one!! JK). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If I were in the market for something like this, I would definitely add the money and just go with a GS.
Not enough here to warrant the cash, IMO.

I've seen worse examples sell on eBay for more. The 45 movement has good pedigree. With a decent strap that's not a terrible price

I like Seiko in general, have a 45 year old manual wind automatic, and from what I’ve seen of this new King Seiko, looks pretty good. My one reservation with the GS models is they aren’t purely mechanical, requiring future service needs that will be unique to Seiko. Am I misguided on this point?
