Sending watch to Patek for service
I'm hoping some forums member have experience in sending a Patek out for servicing. Here's my story.
I purchased a Patek on the secondary market in Canada. I'd like to send the watch in for service. My local AD said they needed an invoice stating taxes were paid on the watch before they can send it to Patek for service. However, I've bought this watch locally from a private seller many years ago. I am no longer able to contact the seller and request an invoice. What alternative solutions do I have to service the watch ? Am I able to send to Patek directly? |

Err, that’s a load of crap. If you want you can send it to Geneva yourself but the AD should do it no questions asked.

i was told exactly the same by the PP and AP (before we got a service centre in Ottawa) ADs locally here. Something along the lines of the CBSA may question the origin on the watch, the AD needs to have proof it was either acquired in Canada or proper taxes have been paid.
Just send it in yourself if they are unwilling and get the BSF407 form. |

I think doing the BSF407 form will work. I"m trying to find the service address on the Patek.com website , without any luck.
What terms should I be searching for? |

Sending watch to Patek for service
What you can do is that you can request BSF407 (formerly Y38), Identification of Articles for Temporary Exportation at the nearest CBSA, just take the watch you and tell them your situation and they will write the serial number and other details of the watch on the card, then you are able to send your watch for service and then will come back to canada with no custom issues

Thank you everyone for your help. I am going to get the BSF407 form and bring to the AD tomorrow to ship out for service.

Servicing a Patek will depend on the specific reference, but for Canadian owners, doesn't Brinkaus in Vancouver service Patek? Have you tried calling them to ask if they will service your specific watch? Some watches will need to go to Geneva for servicing.

I've contacted Brinhaus, however they are not certified to service an annual calendar with chronograph function.

The whole situation is weird because in theory someone could buy a watch and pay tax and it would show on an invoice and then export it and get the VAT back and then bring it back. I dont see how providing an invoice proves anything anyway as far as taxes paid. |

I sent mine directly to New York without anything other than my warranty certificate.
My AD was not interested in sending it for me.

Some countries have stricter laws about importing luxury items and paying taxes on these items and Canada may be one of those countries.
I am sure Patek NYC (HSWA) can service a 5960/5905. But with the turnaround time at HSWA, Geneva is probably going to be faster than HSWA. Just curious what Brinkhaus can service - just simple 3 hand/date watches? ADs that service Pateks have watchmakers trained and certified by Patek for certain levels and it will depend on what level watchmaker they have working in-house. |

If i remember correctly Brinkhaus has a level 3 watchmaker. Perpetuals and more complicated movements are sent to Geneva.

I went to the Canada Customs office and obtained a BSF407 form. It was quick and easy. The customs officer recorded the serial number on a card. Stamped it and told me I can send the watch overseas and have it shipped back without any import duties. I brought the BSF407 form to the AD in Vancouver and they accepted this document. My watch is now being shipped to Patek to have the issue fixed.
Thanks again for all the members help. |

Glad it is sorted. I am actually flying to Nyc very soon to drop off my 5070. I don't trust an AD

When I got my 5140p serviced, I dropped it off as well. Say hi to Patrick.

I've heard CBSA no longer hands out BSF407 forms, can anyone attest to this?
