How old were you when you got your first Patek?

41. 5711 blue. Went to buy a Sub back then not even really appreciating what a Patek was. 9 Pateks later...

At 30 I bought a 5196r and loved it so much that I bought a 5712 five months later (lucky to get the 5712) so quickly.

That is a great thread and i am surprised to see how popular Patek is with younger people also. If i could afford it i would have had one in my collection now at 40.

29. 5167R and 5711 blue came in a week later. Brutal month of expenses haha.

When I was 23 almost got a 5711G but for the same money the rose gold Panerai 289 was at my AD. Went with that one because “more watch” - regrettable mistake - but back then I also thought the 5167 was the ugliest watch I’d ever seen. Ah youth...you don’t know what you don’t know.

I had your thoughts exactly. I have lots of Rolexes, but never really wanted a Patek until I got a blue 5711 at 53. I just added a 5164 and am waiting for a 5712. Now I've got the bug!

I’ve always been a watch guy bought my watches for very specific reasons. The Patek name is now becoming more mainstream so I notice that I have have young friends now that “know” and “like” Patek, yet they wouldn’t even be able to tell you what model they like and why. They just know the name. Sad.

In this sense it’s nice to see so many people who still entered this realm out of sincere passion!
