Would you trade

Your 5712 in mint condition for a platinum Daytona?

No, not a platona fan. Heavy, boring dial, pricey

1 to 1 swap, no additional cash? Financially that's a great trade for you, but I'd do it only if I'm confident I would not want the 5712/1A again one day as getting another one will be more costly and difficult.

Of course it is all a matter of personal opinion. i would do the trade, yet add diamonds to the Platona dial (my preference) and then the trade makes a bit more sense.

No way. Daytona is a great watch but prefer SS Versions as they are more classic color schemes

I would have a hard time with that, especially with the anticipated price increase...

I'm not so familiar with Rolex, but is the platinum daytona as hard to get as the 5712?

Is the value retention good for the platona?

If it is easy to get, and value plummets after purchase, then there is no reason to do the swap with 5712 since the 5712 is so hot.

If having a Platinum watch is really your only motivation, you can get many another brand’s platinum offering for not an awful lot of money, and for some (like say the Chopard LUCs), you’ll actually be getting proper haute horlogerie for the outlay.
As good as the Rolex 4130 movement is, ultimately, it’s nothing all that special, and the cost of the Platinum case doesn’t justify the price, even with the dial and ceramic bezel insert colour combination that many put an importance on because it’s only available on that particular model, due to what it signifies to those in-the-know.

There are just so many other watches in Platinum cases for much less than the Daytona can be had for, that I really can’t see any point to the Rolex one at all – seriously!

FP Journe
A Lange & Sohne Lange 1 or Daymatic...and of course, the Datograph, if you must have a chronograph.
Bvlgari Finissimo
Glashutte Original Rattrapante
AP RO 15310 or PC

No I would not do such trade, the 5712 will hold more value far way than the Daytona, besides the platinum Daytona is a heavy watch , the 5712 is getting very difficult to get, that's my personal opinion

So will the Daytona now that people are considering trading a SS patek 5712 straight up for a Pt Daytona

I would not. 5712 is a much nicer watch, IMO. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of the platinum Daytona but I like the SS versions better.

Exactly, and the resales of the two probably put the 5712 ahead now over here. I'd still pick the 5712, I'm not a massive Daytona fan I'm finding.

Immediately...but I find it hard to believe there's someone crazy/silly enough to want your 5712 that bad. They could sell their platona for more and buy a new 5712 from grey with money left over.

D500 is crap imho but the Pt. is a very sweet piece probably since the masses just refuse its gorgeous color scheme.

Interesting thoughts. I find myself in a quandary. I love the 12 but for a platona I could let go, maybe... lol

Keep the 5712. This would be a no brainer for me. I personally never caught the Platona "bug". I love the Daytona, but only as a SS or possibly a TT. There are so many other watches I would much prefer to own in platinum that cost much less than the steep price of the Platona.
