How much love is out there for Longines?
So I'm considering a dressy watch with a clean dial and white face to wear with a suit.
I originally considered the new Tudor 1926 collection 39mm (which is still on the radar) but i haven't come across in the metal yet. I saw this today in an arabian souk for $1800 it's from the master collection from Longines. I think the design is nicer than the Tudor, but I'm certain the Tudor is more robust and better made; nevertheless what do you think if you had to choose between the two? |

Very nice looking dress watch. Haven’t really looked into the Tudor’s but did recently notice some great dressy watches by Raymond Weil. Good luck

That's a very nice dial. I'd have no issues wearing that with a suit

I have lots of love for Longines....
Longines is more a dress watch than the Tudor IMO, here's mine, always a treat to wear. |

I’m a Longines fan and I own a watch from the Master collection reference L2.793.4.
The movement in my watch, which I believe is the same as in the watch you’ve posted a picture of, is based on the ETA 2892/A2 and it’s excellent. Mine is +1 per day accuracy, it’s robust, tried and tested and servicing costs are cheap. Don’t worry about the quality. To be brutally honest a lot of people’s perception of quality is placebo based on the brand name and the price tag. I realise this may be sacreligious but I’d be surprised if the Tudor was objectively much better made. It’s hard to compare my Longines to my Rolex watches because it’s on a strap and dressy. However compared to my Omega De Ville the quality of finishing on the case is just as good, the gator strap on a par, deployant better and I even reckon the movement is better too, despite (or perhaps because of) not being in house. If you like the look of the watch, you won’t be disappointed when you get hold of it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

I'd probably like that better without the date function; but if I was in the market for a dress watch, I'd look mostly at Longines.

Longines are beautiful watches with a fine heritage and the piece you have chosen is no exception. I have three Longines in the collection and there’s always room for more.

Some of Longines heritage models are really nice. Simple movements with vintage looks that won't break the bank.

I'm a big Longines fan too and have considered several but never actually bought one. I bought a gold one for me wife, however, and it's a great watch for the price. I don't like the fact that they put dates on most of their watches, but if one is present, it's usually done in an inoffensive manner. Keep in mind that, pre 1960s, Longines made a better watch than Omega and Omega made a better watch than Rolex, although times change. Still, their modern watches are superb values and they are the equal of Omega and Tudor in terms of case and dial finishing, even though they use ETA movements. Today, Longines offers a lot of watch for the money and one would have to step up to JLC to get a better watch when dress pieces are concerned, in my opinion.

I like the brand and they make some nice pieces. Not to mention they are reasonably priced.
Their new retrograde movement is one I would like to add to my watchbox. Here are a couple that were handed down to me...from the early 80's ..... I understand if folks don't care for quartz watches, and I am not sure what movement is inside this piece as it was not purchased by me. But still keeps to 3-4 seconds accuracy a month, which is impressive. I wear it occasionally as one of my dress watches. The second piece is an automatic...also an unknown movement ...and from the 70's I think. Still works well and keeps good time. Not bad for 50-60 year old timepieces. |

I like Longines watches and have been looking at them for a while. My AD carries the entire line-up and at some point I will pick one up.
