Truman by David McCullough (best biography I've ever read)
In the Kingdom of Ice by Hampton Sides (nonfiction will amaze you what these men endured. Will bring tears to your eyes)
The other islands of New York City by Sharon Seitz (nonfiction but interesting)
No one would listen by Harry Markopolos (about Madoff Ponzi scheme. This guy knew before anyone)

Then 3 classics that I've read too many times

Of mice and men by John Steinbeck
The Godfather by Mario Puzo
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

The Martian by Andy Weir is also one of my favourites, the movie that came afterwards was a huge letdown though.

In no particular order:

Starship Troopers- Robert Heinlein (absolutely nothing like the movie from the 1990s...)

All Quiet on the Western Front- Erich Maria Remarque

Once An Eagle- Anton Myrer (Possibly the best book about leadership out there; continuously on the Chief of Staff of the Army's professional reading list)

Not sure I can say “most”, but Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson is a great read.

1984 is my favorite novel, followed closely by the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.

The Bourne series by Ludlum is also on the tops of my list.

'Earth' - David Brin. Science/futuristic. An entertaining and thought provoking story by a scientist.

'The Stand' - Stephen King. Fantasy. An enduring favourite.

'The Last Coyote' - The fourth (Harry Bosch) novel by Michael Connelly. Crime genre. Entertaining, amusing, clever.

'Game, Set and Match' - Len Deighton. Spy genre. Literate, crafted, polished.

Somerset Maugham, "The Razor's Edge", has always stood out for me as one that I keep coming back to every few years.

Most interesting because it delayed your meeting with the Bible?

'Guns, Germs and Steel' by Jared Diamond
'The Blind Watchmaker' by Richard Dawkins

I mostly read sci-fi series, but these two books left a lasting impression on me. Probably worth a re-read as it's been awhile.

Goodbye Darkness by Wm Manchester. His personal experiences as a Marine in the Pacific in WW2. When the Japanese army first encountered the Marines, their commander said:"These men are not like the Chinese" Referencing their experience with the poorly trained, led and equipped Chinese army they encountered in China.
Read it several times.

Thanks all, just added 49 titles to my e-library wish list. I'm connected to my local library and the New York library, so I can read these for free. I read 3-4 books a week and am always scrambling for something good to read.

If you read a lot, recommend getting connected to library e-reading list.

I love that book. I have a minor collection of signed mountaineering and adventure books, and years ago, I bought a signed, first edition.

I get a new one of those one-year Bibles every year, so I have read it cover-to-cover more times than I can count.

The second most influential book I've ever read is "Atlas Shrugged"; if fact, I just finished reading it for the second time last week, very rare for me to give a novel a second reading, but it is a great read.

For lighter reading, I like the Tom Clancy books to include the ones in the Jack Ryan series that other sanctioned authors have done since Clancy passed away.

Best,
Skip
