New member from Japan

Dear all,

I have been mostly a read-only-member on this forum but, I'd like to start participate in talks here to learn more about vintage Rolex/Tudor models.

Please allow me to make n00b comments.

Regards,
Ken

Thanks for the comments. My density of states in Japan is about 10 % and I enjoy Nakano Broadway whenever I am in Tokyo :)

Ginza? I’ve only been there once. Nakano about once a year.

My usual hotel in Tokyo is in Ginza and enjoy those nice boutiques and Wako, needless to mention. But, new modern watches do little on me these days and I just enjoy the smell of Ginza. Nakano is fantastic for vintage watches - last time I was there a couple of shops had vintage pre-Daytona models (these are well out of my range though)!

For vintage Rolex models, Quark maybe? This dealer has its own vintage Rolex collection (not for sale) and accepts up to 4 people a day for viewing apparently.

Another cool dealer for vintage watches is Carese in Roppongi Midtown. The owner is the author of a well-know vintage watch book "ONLY ANTIQUES".

I stop by the Ginza Quark shop all the time, just to browse (it is on my way home from work). Otherwise, there are so many brand boutiques, I'm usually looking at new watches. They have just about everything.

I bought a watch from Quark in Shinjuku once, and I was very happy with their service and quality. If you ask, they will let you thoroughly inspect a watch and its movement. They handed me a loupe, and even showed me a book on serial numbers, dates, bands, and so forth to make sure I was getting what I expected. English isn't great, but good enough to work through.

I think their prices are a little higher than other shops in Japan, but I'd go back to them just because I trust them.

Oh, just ran into another place in Ginza that has an incredible collection...accidentally. I think it was called NJ watches or something like that. You will, undoubtedly, see the large Seiko clock building if you are on the main drag of Ginza. On the same block, to the east, turn down the narrow road and you will see it. Many, many vintage watches there.
