You think the Explorer 2 is being discontinued in April?

With this being the 50 year anniversary on the EXP II this year, do you think The Crown will discontinue/retire the current model in April?

Yes 50 years is right about expiration time. No longer Explorer II from April!

Who knows... but I’ll guess the X1 is gone.

Huh? No, the model as a whole will not be discontinued. There will be a new Exp2 to celebrate its 50th.

My Exp 2 anniversary Reference: Green GMT hand, Green Green ExplorerII text. Green Date wheel. (Same green that is on the Air King). 3235 Movement.

I think the green would look great on both the black and the white dials.

Only have the green for a year, go back to the orange the next year but keep the upgraded movement

I worded it poorly. I really meant as Rolex discontinued the 116520 SS Daytona and introduced the 116500 ceramic version

They will definitely update the Exp II. I really hope they don’t reduce the size or I will have a serious dilemma; sell my current 42mm for the smaller updated one? Please don’t do that to me, Rolex!

I just got one today, surprisingly.

My AD said he saw less of these than white dial Daytona in 2020. Take it for what it’s worth, but happy to have in my collection forever.

Eventually, if not this year then next...or the next after, but eventually, you'll be right.

The will reintroduce the black dial with red Gmt arrow and red lettering.
Like for the sea dweller .

Size remain the same since they still need to finish the 42 mm case they have in stock

I heard from a friend who knows a friend who is a friend of the Rolex CEO, he told a friend who knows a friend that all Rolex watches are going to be discontinued sometime in the future.Mainly because Rolex watches today by many are seen as little more than £££$$ object things. Instead of buying and wearing one of the finest mechanical watches made today whether any thoughts of investment or perceived discontinuation .

Rolex can do what they like with the Explorer this year or any year. And they will, at some point. I've got my beloved Polar and it's not going anywhere, apart from maybe a RSC occasionally.

All we can do is wait and see.
If anything, a revision might be in order.

I hope they do not destroy the design and its identity. The steel bezel has to remain their hallmark.

Some interesting predictions (speculation) on possible new designs for an updated Explorer II in this video, starting at 6.35

https://youtu.be/sc53rGRpfIw?t=395

At the beginning of the video he looks into previous 50 anniversary watches for cues on possible design choices for the 2021 Explorer II 50 anniversary.
