First, congratz for your Ellipse it looks great, I tried it myself.

I've been asking myself that same question, we definitely see here and there shy samples of 70's-80's elements. I would say it's quite local, depending on regions. So it depends on where you live.

I would say it should be (haven't seen such shiny colored gold polished bracelet in the metal) very visible. If you already wore a colored gold RO/Nautilus then it would be easier.

My feeling on Patek's catalogue is that they provide a very few pieces (as some other brands you mentionned do) but that it's aimed at a very few people claiming them. Not something we'll see often. For instance, there is no Gondolo anymore for men in the catalogue and nothing for the 30th anniversary last year (they can't make anniversary celebration everytime but still).

So do it if you really enjoy it, if you think your might be able to wear it in your life context but my opinion is that it's not (yet) a significant flow ? I guess there is more demand for yellow gold again though.

Your version is definitely communicating an absolute and unique, less traditional, elegance. And it goes well nowadays with a more casual outfit too (https://www.hightime-reviews.com/pat...-and-pictures/).

Dear Vasco:

Many thanks for your inputs and for sharing the High-Time Reviews articles on the Golden Ellipse.

Some of the thoughts that were sufficiently captured from your post —

- Majestic dressy : that’s the adjective that I would associate the Ellipse due to combination of ebony sunburst dial and the onyx gem set into the crown. In fact, the r version won me over the platinum blue combo which I found it to be rather plain aesthetically.

- the 70’s - 80’s element and the 70 old school scent : those certainly evoke a big smile on my face and I can certainly associate the Golden Ellipse in the era of the Nautilus and Royal Oak and also with the Charlie perfume of the 70s.

- That Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse model isn’t the kind of objects that reflect a trend, it is the ones that make and define trends.

Lastly, the article mentioned something about Thierry Stern’s decision to discontinue the 5711 Nautilus which is done to avoid confining Patek into a one trick pony model. I would hasten to add two thoughts that I’ve read somewhere:

- Thierry’s bold decision to gradually kill the Stainless Steel line of the Nautilus and moving them to the higher price precious metals Nautilus, thus giving the brand plenty of leeway to introduce other SS models that are becoming popular. Case in point: 5212a and 5935a World Time Chronograph.

- While the Ellipse no longer dominates the company’s production, however, its importance to Patek’s identity is paramount. I read that many times Thierry has considered discontinuing the model, but decided to keep it because, in part, as Thierry said, “It’s like keeping a bit of the spirit of my grandfather.”

Great read on the articles you have shared and here’s hoping for more nostalgic releases from Patek in the future.
