Watch accuracy

My watch lost 17 seconds in 5 months does it need to be regulated?

+/- 2 seconds per day, so 5 months equals approximately 150 days, you do the math and then decide if the watch needs to go to for a bit of regulation.

Mine is 4 seconds fast after only two months, so I’ve got a similar issue.

I thought this was a joke based on you being such a long time member, but you've made countless similar threads.

I suspect that you are using your stovetop clock to check for accuracy. It is well known that the heat from the stove will burn off vital seconds, and those become forever lost, as you have observed.

What kind of watch is it. The type of movement/regulation matters.

Math has never been my strong suit, but I gave it a go anyhow.

It seems your Masterpiece has lost a second every 8.82 days. (Let’s just call it a second every 9 days for 153 days.)

That’s downright amazing.

Your watch is certainly living up to its name!

Michael

Yes, I believe it’s due for a complete overhaul.

It's toast.

Throw it in the recycle bin and move on.

These things don't last forever.

What is the best method for 'slowing down' a watch every night that is running a little fast?

My 114060 is like +7 seconds since I set it on Saturday morning.

I heard that lying it on its side works best, but I figured I'd formally ask.

+7 Over a few days is a good result.
Positional variation may slow it down somewhat, or even speed it up. You will have to experiment and work it out for yourself.
Of course working with a watch that's fractionally fast like yours is the easiest thing in the world.
Firstly, you may choose to simply hack it every couple of weeks to bring it into line with a time standard.
Secondly, you can simply set it a minute or so behind the time standard and let it just catch up and pass the time standard and reset accordingly every month.
