Which speedmaster? Need help
So o have a nice rolex collection and have been wanting to add a speedmaster and have gone back and forth on a number of models
I think I would be equally happy with any of those but want to pick only one! Please let me know your thoughts and why you voted for a specific model Apollo 45th anniversary Apollo 8 The timeless speedmaster professional (sapphire or hesalite) Meteorite grey side of the moon Grey side of the moon Thank you!!

I’ve had the 45th and it’s a nice watch but suffers from the same issue as the Apollo 11 in that the sub dial bugged me. For me, Apollo 8 all day long here. It’s got the ceramic case but the manual movement. Wears slim and much smaller than 44. Beautiful dial also.
So that’s my choice, but I wouldn’t put you off the grey side either (for all it’s a bit thicker). |

Before I vote, my question to you is have you done any research behind the history of each piece and what it represents? Aside from the overall look of each piece, I’ve found it fascinating the stories behind each one and why it was made/released.

I don’t go after the hype of a “limited edition” especially with omega, that seems to produce a ton of “special editions”, some of which are in the thousands produced which wouldn’t make it “limited” Each piece has very neat and interesting history so to me this is a common variable or a wash Thank you!

The one I am most interested in obtaining is the DSOTM with the vintage look, I think that one is stunning.
But you can’t go wrong. There are so many variations you can easily find one you like. (I used a pic from the for sale forum, but this is the one I’m talking about)

I voted GSOTM, but it was neck and neck with the Apollo 8 for me. There is just something about that Grey side that is gorgeous. Another cool piece that not many people talk about is the moonphase speedy with an aventurine dial. Saw one in person and it is breathtaking.

I was looking at Speedies the other day - hesalite and sapphire next to each other in the shop window.
Hesalite looks better and would be my choice. |

I like the original Speedmaster Pro. I recommend having the strap and deployant that go with it, too.

I am always going to pick the Speedy Pro (either hesalite or sapphire) as the one to have in a collection. If you plan on having more, then look at adding another variation, but for you and your collection: Speedy Pro.

Hesalite Speedy Pro if you want the classic. Meteorite Speedy if you want something unique. I have a PO Chrono with the same or nearly the same chrono movement as the X Side of the Moon pieces, and honestly I like the chrono layout and function better with the newer movement. I also have the Hesalite Speedy Pro and it's a classic for a reason.

I go for rarity for the pieces I collect. With regard to the Speedmaster, I went with a limited production piece rather than limited edition. The legendary Speedmaster expert and collector, Chuck Maddox, who is no longer with us, was known to have every significant Speedy in his vast collection. The most difficult reference for him to obtain was the 376.0822, which he famously referred to as “The Holy Grail”. I believe this was the original “grail” watch.
I love the story. And the watch is fun to wear on occasion. Very robust and reliable. Though it’s an automatic, so Speedmaster purists view it as sacrilege, which makes it even more compelling for me. |

Original Speedy.
But only you can decide. All winners as you say.

There's only one "Speedy"....but, it depends on what you want for your collection. If you have a bunch of SS metal bracelet Rolex, maybe an Apollo 8 could be an interesting change?

Seems that the classic SM is what most people voted for! It certainly is a beautiful piece even though it doesn’t have the “special” effect!
