AP down in value??

These WatchBox guys seem to think so. But who cares about the value retention?

I for one won’t be taking watch buying advice from a couple of chumps wearing preowned Omega James Bond watches.

I watched this and to be honest, I am less than impressed with their knowledge on AP and market tendency.

My 15450 according to chrono24 dropped 2k in value literally overnight. I thought it was a bit weird but who knows. I do agree with some points about a very slippery slope going to boutique only model. Especially combined with poor customer service

The thing is with chrono24 are the listing legit or dealers are trying to fish for clients. if you call do they actually have the watch in stock at that price or you just missed it but we can find another one for more.

At the end of the day watches are a luxury item. We should be grateful that they hold some to any value.

Say what you want about the guys in the video but govberg/watchbox is a pretty big pre-owned dealer so I imagine they have a good pulse on the market.

If you want to know why AP is dropping go watch the Revolution Watch interview with AP's CEO at SIHH. The arrogance and attitude displayed at the poor launch of the Code1159 line is a massive turn off, underminds the entire brand, and shows AP really is a one hit wonder and will stay that way under current leadership.

I know none of this should take away from the RO itself but let's face it, these are all over priced pieces of metal and a big part of what we pay for is the history, the brand, and what it stands for. If AP doesn't respect it's current customers and really hopes to own that rich 19 year old kid demographic good luck to them, but that's going to devalue the brand and it's watches for everyone else that owns or might buy one....

Without watching the video I will say my outside opinion is that AP is going up in value to me because they actually have sports models that appeal to me and can deliver them in a reasonable time span without the nonsense that comes with dealing with rolex and patek dealers these days.

Don't know their references, don't know the differences between 15703 and 15710, think movement finishing of the 3135 and the 3120 are the same. Not sure I would take much of what they say seriously. Turned it off a few minutes in.

Wait guys, you forgot the Code eleven fifty thing,

It will save AP and keep value retention to all watches ever after.

My tracking says the opposite on a few select offshore models. Not every watch Rolex makes holds value like the Daytona, and not every watch AP makes will hold value.

Offshore Ceramic 42mm Ghosts, and blue dial Beast 25th anniversary have been selling out. Seen the number of listed reissue Beast go from 30k to 33-35k and about 80% of them sell within the 3 months.

Same with older 25721 series with the baton indices and small tapisserie have been moving up slowly from the 12-16k range to the 16-20k range. Its a sign of slow organic growth as collectors realize which offshores are collectible and which ones are manufactured artificially inflated limited editions.

Watch box wants to drop AP down a bit because it will let them buy at a lower price, since nobody is selling. Most second hand dealers I know almost beg you to sell them hot AP models, as they sell out within less than a day.

Would also be good to get the reference numbers correct when reviewing.

Fine with me. I’ll be happy for a discount on watches I like. (Though I think they’re full of it.)

They provide micro-market facts, based upon chrono24 and ebay (as they admit). Prices will fluctuate but, key models will retain good value. I just bought a 26331ST new and under retail. I have no intention of selling the watch, so my risk is zero. This whole “resale value” based watch shopping is relatively new. I don’t get it. I buy the watch I like, if I dislike later or it doesn’t get wrist time, I offload...

The main guy, Tim Mosso, seemed to be clearly a better presenter than those two.

With AP going boutique only and restricting the amount of discount, I feel like their price will be pretty stable no?

there is only one ap i am watching price wise (and only because chrono24 makes it so easy to do) and it is on the up and up so i don't know what informs the focus of this thread.

also skeletonised?

everything seems insanely hard to get and very expensive if you can get it.

Not a fan of these two kids. But i will say this. I'd buy the diver at 13k over the hulk at 13k.
