Kicking myself

I tried on a 5512 Neat font dial a couple years ago at the European Watch Company in Boston, MA. It was mint condition and I loved it, but I didn't realize what it was. I didn't know anything about Neat font Rolex at the time. The salesman told me it was a Neat font but it didn't mean anything to me at the time. It was 20k. I am kicking myself today for not buying that thing.

Now I see they're going for close to 30k and this is just a couple years later:

Don't feel bad. We've all been there. How about turning down a PN Daytona for $40K years ago because an old manual wind chrono couldn't possibly be worth that much, could it?

have done the same @2004 , mint PN Daytona at $40K , turned it down because it did not have punched papers....

I remember back in my earlier Rolex days in 2004 I chose the white porcelain dial 2 tone DJ on oyster smooth bezel at Mayors over an available white dial SS Daytona for $3500 or so more ! Ha. Live and learn.

For sure. Been there. I remember one time my jeweler had early ten second hand serviced GMTs in his window. The most expensive was $3,500. This was in the early 2000s. I used to reflect how on how small the crown looked. I wish could have bought them all.

Well what about explorer II's. All over ebay for 3-3.5 as recently as 2017. Now they are more than double that amount.

I paid 2950 for this watch in 2015 and that was a good deal then. Such great watches.

Buy one now for $30K so you're not kicking yourself a couple of years from now when they're selling for $45K. Don't make the same mistake twice.

You speak of several years ago and it was already at 20k? Then the 7.5k jump sounds reasonable for this. Perhaps you can get it for 25k.

Yes, I'll probably be kicking myself for not buying it for the 27k they're asking now, in a couple years. :-)

It seems that Rolex are always a little bit beyond the financial reach of our current circumstances, and you need to put in a little personal pain in order to acquire a true treasure. I guess that's what makes them worthwhile.

And I did end up with a nice white gold 1803 Day-Date instead, which is some consolation.
