Bit the bullet, 214270

I haven’t had a Rolex in about 3.5 years. I’ve been wearing a 43.5mm Planet Ocean 8900 in blue for the last few years. Pretty much always been a one watch guy with a decent Seiko diver backup.

3.5 years is by far the longest I’ve worn and kept a daily watch. I got a little bored and it’s time for a change. I’ve always admired the Explorer 1, even went looking for one when the mk2 3-6-9 lume dial came out. Tried on a mk1 214270 back then and found it too small. This was when I was wearing 46mm pilot watches and coming off a 45mm 1st gen Planet Ocean. The smallest I was comfortable going with was a Sub C, so I went that route at the time.

So today I received my mk2 214270 from DavidSW. Great easy transaction as always. First time I’ve paid over MSRP for a watch, and it hurt to have to do so on something I could have had for less than retail a few years back . But hey, the market is what it is and with the 39mm discontinued, I could at least find peace with the situation since there was no chance at getting one from an AD.

So here it is, on my roughly 7.8” wrist. I’m glad my tastes changed and I feel comfortable wearing this watch. Happy to have it.

One of my favorites, and a true classic design. Simple, understated, easy to read, not too thick, very comfortable.

Thanks for the kind words. I was still nervous about the size before it arrived. I had a 37mm Grand Seiko that I absolutely loved regardless of size though so I was hoping for the best. Once the Explorer arrived I knew right away all would be good!

This is a wonderful watch. I wouldn't worry about the price, this is a watch that can last a lifetime.

Nice - Congratulations! Looks perfect on you. Loved mine but it was a bit too big for my 6.75 inch wrist so have got the 124270 now which is spot on.

Fantastic watch. I have the same reference and its my personal favorite and gets hands down the most wrist time. My wrist is 7.75...i think its about perfect. It wears larger imho.

You actually paid less than if you purchased it for MSRP imho. You didnt have to buy 50k worth of garbage to get on a list and you didnt have kiss anyone's ass. I buy all my watches grey. Im in the process of buying a panda...as soon as find a nice one for 25...its mine. Still cheaper than buying it for 14 from a dealer and spending 150k in crap i dindt want for the privilege
