I live in La Jolla and you should check out CJ Charles in our village on Prospect Street. It is safe to wear any watch in La Jolla.

Don’t miss out on taking a trip down into “The Cave.” It’s pretty cool and will certainly be an opportunity for a few neat wrist shots!

I forgot to mention that CJ Charles in our authorized Patek dealer. It is across the street from great restaurants like Eddie V's.

They have nothing fun to look at right now. The Patek and Lange displays are barren. And they moved their VC to the new location in UTC.

So unless you want to see a ton of IWC and Panerai... not worth the time to pop in.

Pepsi safe in San Diego / La Jolla?

Thanks for all the helpful responses! My apologies for my ignorance or if I offended any Locals! I love California and have been many times, just never so far south and close to the border.

We will be staying in SD for a few nights and La Jolla for a few nights for a wedding along the coast.

Your recommendations are greatly appreciated! Many many thanks

FWIW I live in SF where the median home price goes from something like $1.7mm and I wouldn't think it smart to wear Pepsi around, especially late at night or on public transportation if it wasn't under the sleeve. Just my $0.02 that home prices and local affluence doesn't always mean Pepsi is safe!

Just be careful of all roving gangs wearing polo shirts and khaki shorts...

Enjoy your trip to La Jolla!

Pepsi being fancy? I love mine but far from fancy....and La Jolla/SD, were getting crazy now..........Much "fancier" pieces on the mean streets of San Diego

La Jolla has some sketchy parts, I’d head south to Tijuana and wear it there.

I've lived in San Diego since 1962, most of that time, both south of the 8 and east of the the 15, sometimes way east. No offense, but descriptions like this aren’t really true, they’re just clever quips like “there’s no life east of the 15,” another popular one I’ve heard.

Right this moment, I’m writing this from a restaurant in Mission Valley, wearing my Submariner, where I just had a Rolex interaction with another customer. I kept looking at his watch from a distance, trying to make it out. Finally, we passed each other and I told him I had been trying to figure out what watch he was wearing. He proudly showed me his GMT with a black dial and black bezel. Really sharp! He said he flies a lot and uses the extra time function all the time. Older guy, like me, sporting his first Rolex.

Anyway, we were “safe” having this public watch fest, and we both enjoyed each other’s watches, as well as the interaction.

There are “unsafe” areas in any big city or urban sprawl; most of us know these places when we see them, even if we’re from out of town. And “time of day” matters just as much, maybe more, as “bad guys” are more active after dark.

I’d say you’ll be just fine here.

Michael

You can’t compare walking the streets of San Francisco to La Jolla ...

Atherton and La Jolla is a better comparison.

Haaaaay, "slide" that again, cause I've worn ROLEX east of the 15 for more than 10 years. I live in La Mesa too.

Been south of the 8 too, as I've worked for a cardiologist in Chula Vista for a number of years also.

[and btw, a ROLEX GMT is in no way a "flashy" timepiece; just amazing some things peeps think!]
