The Bluesy - Is this watch becoming more popular?
First time post from a Rolex Virgin, after weeks of looking at watches on various sites and YouTube reviews, I decided to buy myself a TT 116613 LB.
I pick it up this week when I am home. I was originally looking at the SS subs, but decided to go with the TT. Are the TT Subs becoming as popular as the SS models? Will I expect this watch to lose much value if I decide to upgrade next year? |

when i started up on watches (around 3 years ago) TT were IMHO on the nose. TT was not "in". for that matter neither was gold (yg).
now i think things have changed. i firmly believe TT and yg are on the way up. in 5 years a TT bluesy will be the "no brainer" classic it once was again (i think it already is with the WIS crowd). one thing all the michael kors watches etc have done is make gold "good"again i think. i dont reckon will ever be as popular as plain black though because alot of guys who want a subC apparently think they are chuck norris/yeager and can't tolerate a hint of "jewellery" about their watch. |

I have always loved the Bluesy. I also think TT is gaining a bit more popularity not that its ever going to overtake SS of course.

Since they can't get hold of a SS watch, the easy way to go is TT :p

Yes . I suspect T will take off. Most regular people will see the prices of SS and TT and opt for TT in current environment.

OP: It has gained a lot of popularity in the last year or so, just look at the secondary pricing. As far as losing value, historically it hasn't done that well on resale. But in present times, maybe it will do better...time will tell I guess. |

I've never taken any notice of popular opinion.
Steel subs are clearly more popular as everyone wants a black bezel sub. Interested to know TT across range (including DJ). Anyway. The LB, its such a beautiful watch, one of the first historically to have a sunburst dial. It gives it style and character like no other watch in the range and that's hard to ignore. Its quite likely the Lvc came about because of the success of the bluesey. So i wouldn't worry wether its steel or TT. Just buy it if you like it. |

IMO its the best of both worlds. It has a little bling with the gold and has the safety of dent/scratch resistance with the stainless being on the outside. Plus IMO it looks great.

Absolutely they're becoming more popular, 116613LB is selling above retail on some reseller sites in the UK, which tells you what you need to know about what's happening to its popularity, though clearly it's not going to match SS in that regard.
Increased SS demand and subsequent scarcity leads to people picking up watches that have previously been less popular, because they're easier to get hold of, thus increasing the secondary value and making those watches scarcer. Never mind SS Subs and GMT's, that's the reason it's hard enough just to find Explorer's and TT Subs/GMT's in display cases.

Demand is up across the board for pro models. Since many cannot get their hands on SS pieces, prices have risen for virtually all pro models. Two years ago you could buy a 116613LB BNIB from David for about 10,500, now they are 13K+. These are crazy times.
I should add: worn a 16613/116613LB since the 80's and it has seen the most wrist time of all over the years. I think I have bought and sold this model at least 5 different times. There is a reason I keep coming back as it is a beautiful watch.

I think that it has always been popular, I mean who hasn't seen one in a case either the older Aluminum Bezel or the Ceramic with that sunburst dial and not been mesmerized. I saw one in the wild at an NBA game and followed the guy to the concessions to get a better look...and I owned one at the time.
It is just that with the difficulty in getting a SS Submariner at an AD ( premium at a grey ) now that for a a few thousand more you can get a TT Beauty. JJ's enthusiasm for his "Bluesy" made me get mine. |

A rising tide raises all crafts!!! Demand is up across the brand. Discounts are down and actual sales prices up. I'm certain most who buy Rolex aren't focused on SS and will take what they can get. There are a couple of billboards advertising Rolex on my ride to work. The bluesy is the watch shown on both. I believe it's a Rolex icon.

in my early teens (about 20 years ago) the bluesy was the pinnacle of Rolex watches IMHO. I feel like I saw them a lot more back then. Definitely a beautiful watch

Just to weigh in on the topic. I believe the demand for these watches, all watches actually, ties directly to supply. I think in the near future you’ll see less and less 16613’s and 116613’s available second hand. This creates a false popularity. Example, if we all could walk into an AD today and buy 2 ceramic Daytona’s, how many of us would?

Blue TT is the exception to the TT rule in my opinion. Love both 5 digit and 6 digit burst, flat blue not as much.

If you can get one at retail now is the best time ever to get one, resale is very strong and will probably improve.

I think the hyper popularity of SS models is driving the TT models up, as alternatives which are now warming up. I got my Blusey towards the end of last year. Mine was the fourth sold by my AD in 2018. The three previous buyers all paid MSRP and didn't haggle (they said). Sign of the times.

Congrats on the Bluesy and welcome to TRF!
I think you picked an amazing watch. I think there are a lot of Rolex models/configurations with TT that are not as popular and have a more love/hate reaction from potential buyers. I think the Bluesy is one of the few exceptions to that trend though -- it's an iconic model that will always have lots of love from the WIS community. I will also admit they are becoming a little harder to come by. I doubt I would need to wait long at all if I told my AD I wanted one but I also have noticed recently they are just always sitting in the display case any more. |

The Bluesy has ALWAYS been popular. It was THE watch that first attracted me to Rolex in the first place.
It has a special meaning to me this watch. Its just that ALL Rolex's are getting hot and crazy priced doesnt matter if its SS, TT or PM. |

They should be expected to be cool again as I got rid of mine a few years ago after being uncool for 2 decades :)
