Manufacture date?

Other than the warranty card (which the date of original sale has to be documented on?)how can you tell if a model was produced in 2019 vs prior year or years? How do you look up serial number or are they randomized

Serial number is engraved at 6 o clock on the rehaut.

Whether you can determine a year of manufacture from that I'm not sure tbh.

Rolex purposely doesn’t disclose production manufacturing codes anymore. You use to be able to approximately tell when the movement was made. Apparently Rolex doesn’t want their customers to know when the movement was made these days. My Rolex watch maker has a theory for this.

You could never get a 100% date when any Rolex watch was made by any internet chart as Rolex have never given these details out.All charts are based when certain serials were seen at the various ADs world wide. And by these charts you could establish a approx date when the case/clasp was stamped between X&Y years and not when watch was made.Rolex started the single letter 6 number serials in 1987 and over those years till 2010 Rolex had made countless millions of watches they ran out of single letter 6 number combinations. The last of the single letter 6 number was G serial 2010, the 8 digit random serials were started the latter part of 2010 till present time.

R 1987
L 1988
E 1990
X 1991
N 1991 (Nov)
C 1992
S 1993
W 1994
T 1996
U 1997 (Aug)
A 1998 (Nov)
P 2000 (Jan)
K 2001 (Sep)
Y 2002 (Sep)
F 2003 (Sep)
D 2005 (Apr)
Z 2006 (May)
M 2007 (Aug)
V 2008 (Aug)
G 2010 (July) last of the single letter 6 number serials, from latter part 2010 some randoms started to appear these have now 8 digits mixture letters and numbers.
G 2010/ 2011 On
Plus Randoms till present time.

So I’m in the market and going to look at DJ today. Supposedly brand new from my trusted grey. I’m hearing that the newest model DJs have a crown in between the “Swiss made” at 6 o’clock. If it doesn’t have this on the dial could the watch then potentially be two years old and a true pre owned?

Not necessarily pre-owned. The 2019’s have the crown. I’ve seen plenty in AD windows that are just NOS.

I have the new DJ41 with crown that replaced the 30. I would prefer the 30. Either way, you still get a 5 year warranty from date on card.

Those with the crown emblem between Swiss Made usually donates it has the new cal 3235 instead of the tried and very trusted cal 3135 but no big deal either way.The main difference with the 32 series the extra power-reserve over the 31 series.

Nope. My DJ41, as well as thousands of other DJ41’s have a dial without the small emblem.

Are you saying that ‘some’ DJ41’s were manufactured and sold without a 3235?? Nope.

It’s a dial detail change and represents nothing more.

I ordered my new DJ41 last September 2018. It took 4 weeks to arrive. It has the crown at 6 and is a 3235 mvmt.
