Advice from polishing experts...
This 16710 has come up for sale at a jewellers which is quite local to me.
Was wondering if any experts could tell me if it's had a light or heavy polish and whether the polishing has been done to a good or bad level? Still a newbie in this department, and just don't want to be overpaying for a badly polished watch. The lugs on the crown side look a bit curved to me? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Some more pics from their website, although the white background doesn’t help.

I think it looks great. I’d buy it. Doesn’t look over smooth. Still good edges.
Over polishing is sad. But light polishing I have no problem with. Who doesn’t want their 10+ k watch to look sharp. Good luck! |

Are you putting it in a museum or are you going to wear it? If you are going to wear it then it looks great. If you are going to put it in a museum then it looks OK. The more relevant questions are do you like it, do you want it and can you afford it? A forum can’t help you with those answers.

Lots of sharp edges. Likely has had its normal swirl marks removed.
Why is the date not centered? It's eclipsing the 22 text.

Looks like a fine example most used Rolex would of had a light polish before sale at most all retailers and lugs on the crown side are always a fraction thinner even from new.

No way can tell on a pic
You need a loupe and experience to inspect whether it has been polished before |

Well unless the example in picture has never been worn and as its not showing any normal wearing scratches swirls etc. Then it would be common sense there would be no need for loupes or experience to tell its been lightly polished.

Looks good to me ....unless its nos its had a light polish which is nice......don’t know why so many on here hate polishing.
If its done well it only makes the watch look better....I can sort of understand if its your own patina but on a second hand watch it kind of wipes the slate and gives you the opportunity to add your own history. Maybe service bezel insert too as its the dark red colour. If the price is good id go for it and enjoy

That bezel looks really good as well, makes me wonder if it was just a safe queen, or was replaced with a service?
The polish on the watch looks great as well. I'd buy it, if I could afford it (I'm sure it's pricey).

Not too bad. However, For me it’s difficult to tell from the pics alone. I’m more concerned with polished lugs to the point where they are rounded. They appear smooth on the top of the lugs. If it’s just the angle of your shot than no problem. Sometimes though I’ve seen folks polish the smoothed lugs to make them look factory fresh and that just rounds them out even more. If you decided to buy, I wouldn’t recommend you get the piece polished. Good luck.

It’s not a badly polished watch. It is hard to tell because of the white background, but the edges may be a little soft — nothing that would scare me away, but might be something I use to negotiate a bit. There is enough there it could be re-polish/re-cut chamfers to look great.
Questions I would ask: 1) How is the watch running? (Fast/slow/timegrapher results) 2) Did the jeweler service the movement? 3) What is the clasp code on the bracelet (this should be generally consistent with the year for the serial number)? 4) How is the bracelet (I.e., “stretch”)? 5) Does the crystal have a laser-etched crown (it should for a no-holes case)? To me those things would have a bigger bearing, because they may affect my costs down the road or tell me more about the watch’s history. |

Light polish should not be noticeable, in my opinion. You take a new months old watch and lightly polish out scratches, and it is as good as new. On older models, the polish is only assumed because of the age.
